Have companies ever come across as too desperate to you?

A company messaged me on LinkedIn about a job. We set up a phone interview for Monday. And then just a few hours later, she emails me about coming in to meet some people on Tuesday.
I personally like when they move fast. The contract I'm working now I was sent an email on Thursday, spoke with someone Friday morning (11/2), Interview scheduled with the CEO Saturday morning(11/3). Was presented with an offer Tuesday morning (11/6) with a start date for the following Tuesday (11/13).

It's just weird that they scheduled an on-site before we've even had the phone interview. And it's really suspect that I'm not meeting with a tech person.

Just got two job offers (had a third pending that wanted one more reference, but given the shytty commute, I backed out), 3 more interviews lined up next week. waiting to see the final #’s on the second job

But lord, this first job REALLY wants to fill the role, base is 50k more than my previous base, all in at ~250k

i feel you, that’s the reason the company I just posted about gave me a wild offer, they liked me, yea, but they also really want to fill the role. Super pressed about my response.

Snapchat felt like that. But I think I was meant to be a diversity hire :mjpls:. My personal taste isn't too move quickly though. I like a week between steps, at least.
i feel you, but depending on industry, you need to move fast. I interviewed with a hiring manager at Salesforce over a month ago, figured I wasn’t moving forward after a week of no feedback, then yesterday they pop out of no where with an invite for an on site. I’m like, I’m good, got offers already and more final interviews set up. :fuggu:

I’ve also turned down interviews where I knew I was simply a pipeline diversity number and there was probably no intention to hire.

:ohhh:

Where'd you do your MBA? That's a heavy ass offer.

If you don't mind me asking, age (I know you're 25 at heart though) and current industry.

Your in the SF area so that makes sense as far as the offer.

Lol @ 25 at heart. 33, Wharton, product marketing in tech. That offer is very much above average for my level, but it’s a well funded venture arm of a bigger company.

Lol, it’s in the reply - Wharton, your city. I love Philly:smile:

Edit: at least I’ve always assumed you’re in Philly, May be reading your name all wrong :patrice:

Ahhhhh, Totally missed that. PH City is Port Harcourt, Nigeria - my hometown. I’m in DC at the moment.

Funny thing is that my sister is at Wharton undergrad and my younger sis is also at Penn.

I need to start studying for my 2nd GMAT soon :francis:. I’ll need at least 730 because my undergrad GPA was basura.

You got it. Banging out a good GMAT definitely helped me. I had the undergrad prestige but worked for a bunch of no name companies after undergrad, so schools like Harvard were like “we good over here :hubie:” haha

I went to the flagship state school in MD but again GPA. :francis:

I’ll shoot for the Harvards and Whartons but it’ll be a long shot. At least I’m in Corporate now. Lord knows I can take a Darden MBA and do something big with it in Nigeria.

Where’d you do UG (if you dont mind me asking) :hubie:

you might have better odds than you think, don't buy into the internet mythology too much
people would have you think you need to be a magna cum laude HYP grad who did i-banking and private equity to get into these programs

if you actually look at a resume book from HBS it's a whole bunch of Kaitlyns who went to Bryn Mawr for poli sci and worked in some consumer brand company, Carlos who did engineering at CSU Dominguez Hills, etc. basically people you would expect to be at Darden

I don't doubt that. It's my UG GPA that kills me. I've seen people go to lesser schools that go on to top programs. My undergrad school is solid and well respected. Even with a strong GMAT score I'd need an "edge/story" that would differentiate me from the rest of the pack.

Honestly I think doing a year or 2 in Nigeria makes me a more interesting candidate.

We'll see

I've been trying to break through in a very niche oriented industry for years now. It's basically the field I've got the most experience in(all entry level), but even that doesn't seem to matter when trying to influence decision makers to give me an opportunity. Guess I gotta think more outside the box than I already have been. Post is more venting than anything else lol.

Stanford. And yea, not sure how old you are, but man, apply to those consortium schools and get a scholly, avoid the extra debt if you can.

And now I see why you talk about soccer so much in the gym forum, I was like “who the hell from Philly makes soccer their exercise”
