Visibility is important in your career, especially if you're on the sales side.

I went to the NVIDIA GTC conference to learn more about AI (and at my company they're a partner of ours) which included me going to discussions, sessions, talking with people from NVIDIA and other organizations on how they're doing AI.

Something I did that was SUPER was important was posting on my LinkedIn about my experience there and when industry experts were going to come to our booth. I got a lot of post impressions primarily posting videos. This resulted in a lot of senior leadership across teams adding me to their LinkedIn.

They know of me the team I work under, but not me as much.

Having Director, VP, & SVP level people from my organization add me from a few LinkedIn posts speaks to the power of posting on LinkedIn and also building relationships which will pay dividends in the future. Not to mention the contacts I made from other companies by going to this conference. Just a word of advice.

Hope that helps other people here.

How y'all merit increases looking this year? I got 3% which was on the higher end on my team. Funny enough I turned down an offer for a role that made a lot more money, but I felt that the technology wasn't as interesting and would be dated soon. What I'm working on now though in AI there's going to be a huge up shot in the next few years and I doubt I will miss the money I left on the table from the previous role.

My current role has a better work-life balance. I work remote, my manager doesn't micro manage me, and I have room to learn more in this role. I will campaign for a promotion this year, push to go to more conferences, certifications, and do more highly visible work (by either creating content or adding stuff to my GitHub). If I don't get one by early next year I will have enough collateral and have grown enough to decide whether or not if I want to move on. Right now I'm going to grind more.

I crafted a masterplan at Google to try to get promoted as fast as humanly possible. This is what went into it.

I'm an ex-Amazon VP who's viewed 10,000 résumés in my career. Here are the top 6 mistakes I've seen and how to fix them.

100%. Only take those unlimited PTO jobs if you’re gonna be taking at least 7-10 days off a quarter.

Studies show people in those roles actually take less PTO than regular PTO employees.
unlimited PTO sounds nice in theory but my last job it was increasingly hard to take time off for various reasons..it almost was not worth it

They say once you have your first 100k invested the hardest part is over because your money doesn't seem to be working for you until then and compound interest hasn't really started show out yet but I've also heard that advice is outdated now and it is actually your first 200k invested that should be the target in 2025. Any thoughts on this?
