Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
How do I explain away layoffs when going over my work history? At my last job the CEO left and the investors laid off almost everyone. I thought the company was done, but it turns out they're still going. The job before that the company pulled out of America because things were going so badly.

You got a valid reason...you can tell the truth. My question is..how would they even know you got laid off? I never put that on my application.

"You can't fire me, I quit!"

Even when I didn’t put it on my resume, it would come up during the interview.

I don't think its that serious. If they really ask just say you were in between gigs, while you were taking care of family.

I don't think employers want to see you worked at Kroger as a cashier, to prove you were working...

Man, I just had an interview and I don’t think it went well at all. It was 2 SREs interviewing me. They gave me a list of things to that we can talk about.

The recruiters email said they like to keep it conversational, but it didn’t seem that way to me. It was like I would bring up a topic from the list and I wasn’t sure how far to go with it. The conversational flow wasn’t there because of the list.

Edit: One of them got paged in the middle of the interview. So it was just me and the one guy for a while. Then the other one popped back in after a bit.

I've literally thought I bombed interviews, only for them to hit me up like 24 hours later, asking what my pay range was.

The real question is, from the interview, could you gauge if you could feel comfortable working with them?

I guess. Through my questioning I learned that there’s another person in the same role, so it would be a team of 2. But he wasn’t in the interview. It seems like at this org, IT falls under SRE. The head SRE would be the manager for the role. I should’ve asked how he gauges success in the role, but he was gone for a chunk of the interview and I forgot to ask.

I have a few recruiter calls this week, but all this interviewing is getting old.

I agree with @Serious . I had my best interview ever at the end of September and got rejected a few days later. Had another a few days later were I presented a business case for a partner and he ripped it apart. Thought I bombed but ended up getting an offer later.

Its a crapshoot IMO.

The only truly bad one I had was at Mercedes Benz in summer 2017. They haven’t called back on any application I’ve sent since. :mjlol:

We didn’t talk about the company’s product. They never said anything about it. I forgot to ask.
