My job is dashboard heavy as well.

I don’t mind it. I write a few simple queries then create a dashboard then I’m straight.

I have a shyt ton of free time.

Now I’m like @Obreh Winfrey where I have weeks where I don’t really do shyt :pachaha:

I use this free time to sleep. But now I’ve started looking for another potential gig to increase my income. :manny:

Side bar: Indeed is trash. Basically Craigslist status. LinkedIn is the way to go.
Sit on completed work and coast for weeks :banderas:

TLDR; Got a CS job then got moved to Risk. Manager was an ass. I quit. Studied. Getting my certs up and the future looks bright.
Thanks for sharing. That nepotism shyt is ridiculous. Shawty can even copy paste a url into excel :dead:

One question... did you ever reach out to your initial manager that vouched for you and explain your situation to see what (s)he could do before you dipped?

Yup, I was talking to nikkas for 4-6 weeks on trying to get back on the CS side. Managers, department heads, etc. I could tell they were feeding me the company lines whenever we talked. There is plenty to learn in risk, this will be good for your career. Bottom line was, they changed my entire job and didn’t even talk to me about it before hand. Then gave me the worst mentor on top if it. Zero structure. I even talked to my Risk manager and he was like “listen, I need to know if you’re going to do the job and do it was passion” :picard:

I talked to as many people as I could. Them putting me in charge or ServiceNow was the last straw. He said I needed to create an “How To” for all of IT to use with Change Request and what not. I was like umm I don’t even have access to ServiceNow is this something you can grant me? He legit sent me a recorded Teams meeting he had with the developers and told me to watch the recording and put screenshots in the SOPs.

You making me mad all over again. One time he told me to reach out to all the IT Departments and make a spreadsheet for all our external SLAs. I reached out to department heads one by one and they laughed me out like :mjlol: we don’t have them shyts. My manager then told me I needed to look through and read all our contracts and find what we agreed to and once I couldn’t find that he told me call every.single.vendor the company uses. nikka it was dozens of them.

So yeah after I quit, all the engineers was like yeah man that was bullshyt I would have done to.

No shyt :stopitslime:

You got this!! The clearance will definitely be the game changer, but that wait will be a fool. Good move to keep studying, it will help with the waiting process. I have a friend who has been working in a SCIF for years now. I always know when they are on lunch or off work because I start getting texts lol.

What is a security clearance and why does it take a year? That seems ridiculous to me.

When you work for or contract work for the Federal government, depending on your role you need a "clearance" or basically a background check. The more classified information you're working with, the more thorough the background check and therefore a higher level of clearance is offered.

The checks can be very detailed, like they may contact old neighbors or people you've worked with. Check on places you frequented and things of that nature. Again, the higher the clearance, the more detailed, so that's why it takes so long. Combine that will them being backed up/short staffed and it's a wait for sure.

For sure! But again, that depends on the level. My friend used to run polygraphs for folks the department of defense arrested as terrorists, so her shyt was super detailed for the clearance and she still gets random drug tests.

We knew this was happening. All about leverage. Companies didn’t have much and just needed people to work and were willing to make a lot of concessions. All those tears about needing people to work and how they cared about safety blah blah blah all bullshyt. The employers have the leverage now and will start using it.

A good opportunity for advanced, forward thinking companies to swoop in and secure top talent.

Good thing there's more options when you're in IT.

After having tasted freedom for so long, no way I'm ever sitting behind a desk for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week ever again.

My sister (who also works in IT) said a lady took a job as a cleaner/custodian when she worked in a government building just to get a clearance. One day she was emptying the trashcan saying, she's getting a clearance soon and hopefully she'll be up in there one day. One year later she was my sister's coworker in her IT Department :mjlol:

Gotta respect the hustle though. The IT Department wasn't doing clearances but the cleaning facilities was.
