from an entry level standpoint.

Get your network plus, get your security plus, learn linux..go work in a soc to develop networking, troubleshooting and cyber security skills.

You can go the endpoint path(crowdstrike) ---- (Firewall, IPS) these two will help you mature in the networking/security department.

For firewall you can get palo alto certs.

If you want to be super competive get your CISSP - Associate, you will get the experience later, this can help kill the competition who have their security plus. There are tons of other paths in security, you can go the audit route(cisa), risk management(crisc), project management, data privacy(cipm), cloud security etc. you can even be a security project manager(less headache honestly, less technical).

Honestly the later is better than Networking, I could be wrong but outages are no fun.

I’m thankful I found a job during the pandemic but my goodness onboarding remotely for a non-digital first role is the worst.

I know people love this WFH model but I miss the enterprise infrastructure available at the office. That and constantly being “immersed” physically in your work helps you get up to speed faster.

Well, RTO (return to office) is Sep 7th for me so...

I hate when family members want me to troubleshoot stuff. I hate it even more when I'm still expected to troubleshoot stuff from 1500 miles away. I'm a software engineer, not help desk :unimpressed:. Even though I know how to troubleshoot, I can't fix every little thing that pops up.

This is why sometimes I avoid telling people I'm in IT or get into too much depth, because all of a sudden everybody thinks you're their personal technician that they can just call out the blue or ask a whole bunch of questions about their computers and tablets.
