Black and brown tech workers share their experiences of racism on the job

https://www.latimes.com/business/te...-tech-tech-workers-tell-their-story?_amp=true

A Black career IT professional put himself forward for a promotion but was instead asked to help recruit another candidate, who was white. A Black Google engineer was confronted by a white coworker demanding to see his ID badge. A Latino project manager pointed out his quickly growing startup was almost all white, and the chief executive responded by telling him to invite his friends to apply for jobs. A Black Air Force vet was offered positions at both Twitter and Snap, only to be set adrift both times when the recruiting programs that brought him there dissolved. A Black programmer on contract was denied a full-time job and asked to train her unqualified white replacement instead.

LinkedIn is still a great tool, but lately it’s becoming more Facebook-ish with people posting irrelevant shyt and discussion topics that have nothing to do with career and networking.
Yep and I am about to market on it too :blessed:

Brehs, my goal is simple. net-profit of 80-100k a month. Get more shyt. Steady 7 figures. Buy an IT company based on the talent I've assembled. Create a bomb ass product. Get VCs buy-in via my large LinkedIn base. I got a strong international and American base. Keep or sell to a major company for eight to nine figures. Do it again, till I am a billionaire. I am literally telling you how I will become a billionaire, vaguely but God be with me on this journey.

The best quote I've heard on Grey's Anatomy, "The best time to have kids is never... you are never going to be ready and it's never the right time."

Sounds like the same with this situation.
Kids are the greatest motivator ever.

this #supportblack movement is wild, this (white) dude i went to b-school with just linked me on a message/referred me to this dude looking for a CMO for his company, while i'm honored, i'm definitely not ready for a CMO role, even at a startup.
Take that shyt, fukk is wrong with you. You can learn on the job, obviously, he has seen something in you. Yo pick, can you do this shyt, hell yeah. 100%, I just need time to adjust but you made the best damn decision in your life. Have faith in yourself

I'm a web developer, mostly building agency and e-commerce type websites but I want to branch off and do something different.

I'd like to help music artists in some capacity and I'm thinking about reaching out to a few underground rap artists that I like out in Cali....I dunno, I just want a change of pace and expand a bit.

This role I'm in talks with is talking about relocation....to the West Coast :patrice: I've never been to the West Coast proper but most of my travel is east of the Atlantic. Screw tacking on an additional 5 hours on a flight to Europe.

If you do not go there and take that damn job. That's C-Suite money:hhh:

You'll be gucci regardless, just focus on having the right direct reports that know their shyt. Hell, our Chief Commercial Officer isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but his direct reports are amazing at what they do and he know's the right questions to ask them to gain the right answers. Dude probably was like 30-40% qualified for the role when he came in but here he is 6 years later with multi-million dollar stock options :yeshrug:

Just do it.

Once you become a CMO, it’s unlikely that you will ever have to worry about offers lower than that in the future. You would be on your way to CEO. Go Get that shyt :russ:

This is why I don’t give a shyt about companies not allowing employees to wear “BLM” apparel to work. To hell with what they wear if they are being treated poorly, underpaid, and have no room for advancement.

This city will pay you to move there if you work in technology (so here is how to get a tech job now)

This city will pay you to move there if you work in technology (so here is how to get a tech job now)

If your time quarantining during the coronavirus pandemic has made you realize that you need a huge change in your life, this one city may have the perfect solution for you. If you are a tech worker, Savannah, Georgia wants to pay you $2,000 for moving expenses if you are willing to relocate to the southern city.

The effort comes from the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA) as a way to draw new talent in the tech industry.

I love Savannah, but 2K moving expenses isn't going to cut it. That wouldn't even pay most peoples moving fees and I assume the pay rate there isn't great.

-I'm happy a new month is coming. I mean it's cliche, but re-strategizing or re-evaluating your plan for the start of a new month makes it a little easier to track your progress or failures when you don't do what you're supposed to. If I read correctly, I should have enough educational hours to qualify me to take the PMP, but I'm going to call and make sure and move from there. My goal is to be earning the salary I desire by November.

-Last week was tough; all of the fed jobs fell through, I was getting one rejection email after the next, bad news from unemployment, etc just did THE MOST. I was in a really dark place, but I shed some tears and kept it moving. Back to the drawing board. I'm also going to follow up with the SBA on starting my own government contracting firm. The local offices appear to have opened back up.

- I really need to focus these next 5 months and figure out a path because in 2 years, I HAVE to move. My new neighbors have 6 kids...so 8 people altogether. Neighbors behind me are 4 deep and 3 on the other side. I want more privacy and a yard that backs to the woods. So at this point, I'm trying to make money and stack. I'm grateful my finances are super streamlined.

Probably gonna get let go from this job. I've been very distracted working from home and the workload expected is too much esp. in consideration of my salary.

I put in like others in Atlanta the 12 week COVID leave. Hopefully I get it and can find something better while I'm off. These UK folks are a trip.

I called the PMI institute and was told contact hours are calculated by multiplying the number of credits for the class by the number of weeks in the semester. So 4 classes * 3 credits * 8 weeks = 96 contact hours. :blessed:I only need 35 to qualify for the exam. I’m aiming for the end of July to take the test. About to start cramming.
