2020 Goals? Financial, Career, etc.
There's a few jobs at Microsoft I'm targeting. They're not easy to stumble upon on a normal job search. I'm in the process of redoing my resume for them.

Initially I was going to go with an entirely new look, but I was having trouble getting it to work properly, so I made some changes to my current one. I used to have "skill graphs" but they took up too much space, took noticeable time to render when scrolling, and I'd gotten the feedback "I don't know what this means" (yeah MF you do, you're just being a dikk). Swapped them out with some text boxes that list a bunch of skills. When I saved it as plain text, none of that stuff showed up so I tried doing it in a table. The table showed up in plain text, but I couldn't get a similar visual style. Wound up doing both: keep the text boxes and put the skills into a 1x1 table with no borders and the font set to hidden. That got the visual style and the plain text content. You could fukk around and hide a whole nother resume in there :skip:. Last thing to do is add the project I've been working on and check a couple of things against my work, and it's good to go.

I'm going to start blocking out an hour of my work day to study algorithms. Probably make it the last thing I do for the day.

I'd like to pay down 50% or more of my remaining student loan. That's dependent upon the bonus I get this year. I'm going to weigh that against paying down more of my car loan. I don't like the number that keeps staring back at me every month. I'm already 2 months ahead of schedule on it after like 5 or 6 months of paying it down, so that's a positive.

I need to make some lifestyle changes for my health. Thata going to take a concentrated effort because I always start strong and then peter out after a few weeks.

I need to take up a hobby or two that will get me out of the house. I'm stuck in a rut where I may not leave the house for 3, 4 days at a time sometimes. Gets pretty lonely

. Don't help that I'm more introverted and listen way more than I talk. My interests don't align well with my age group and I'm not up on any pop culture beyond the bits and pieces I see on The Coli. Might need to take my ass back to California where I actually know somebody.

My first class seat was inoperable so I got fukking bumped to coach :beli:. If I was white I'd have made a scene.

Heh, and the guy they moved to give me this seat walked by and made an a$$hole comment. "I hope you like my seat... that I paid for." MF, I paid for my first class seat. I'm not any happier about this shyt than you are. Good for him I have so much to lose, otherwise I'd act like the nikka he wants me to be.

Took 18 months but our vendor finally delivered what we've been trying to do ourselves :unimpressed:. Probably a good 5 million dollars or more could have been saved by just waiting.

Anybody do those LinkedIn skill assessments? I know they don't actually mean anything, but it's a nice little waste of time :ehh:

That 3 week holiday was really needed. My workplace had really started affecting my mental health.

I got a good chance to decompress and put things in perspective. No need to overdo myself in this particular role on this team. The growth isn't here. I'll learn what I can at the moment, but I'm fully committed to leaving. Come in, work hard but be out by 5 to focus on my personal development.

I'm also re-energized for the job hunt and my career planning. I have a pretty good 5-year plan now. I need to nail down my 10-year plan as well.

My immediate target is a new role in the next 16 weeks. From there the next goal is working towards an MBA admission for the class of 2024. M7 + the Next 4 is my target list of schools (essentially the top 11/12 schools).
