Wrapped up the phone interview earlier today with the Director on the team. I took my Dad's advice and worked from home so I could be relaxed and in the right state of mind. Went for a jog before hand as well so my mind was sharp.

So the position I applied for was in this company's broad Financial Markets Consulting practice so to speak, but this role was geared more towards due diligence type work rather than actual valuation and analysis that would influence decision making (what I was gunning for).

Anyway, the Director was a really cool dude on the phone and easy to speak to. He straight up told me that I wouldn't be the best fit in that role, but I'd be a good fit for the company on a different team. He said he'd talk to the recruiter to see if they could have me interview elsewhere. He said worst comes to worst, if I interview elsewhere and don't get a follow up, then he'd pull the trigger to have me work with him and then after 6 months, look to pivot me elsewhere.

That's pretty much as good as it gets.

:ehh:

I need to vent.....

4 days in and i dont like the job already :francis: thought it would be more business orientated with a possibility of programming or IT related tasks so far i've only seen the people in my team do admin/ data entry stuff. The weird thing is that my team is supposed to be a merge of 2 different teams however it still seems very split. My team are in total 6 people including me and my manager 2 of them from what i've seen and heard are doing somewhat tech stuff the rest including me are from what i'ven seen doing straight admin work. im supposed to shadow the other later on this month so ill have to wait and see what happens.

I would be lying if i said i have not been happy and hate what i've been doing so far it's :unimpressed::trash: status and also i ddint spent 4 years in college to do bs admin work. I haven't obviously said anything to my manager as i dont want to show and play my hands this early.

the company im working for is basically a startup that recently grew pretty quick between 2017-2018 grew 50% so it's moving away from its startup phase we are even infact moving from a shared office to private one next month. They say there are no managers and it's a flat hierarchy but this is obviously not true as the main manager for my team is in the US and also there seem to be other managers i've seen for other teams lurking around.

My probation is luckily only 3 months so i need to keep my eyes and ears open and plan my next move inorder to hopefully slickly change team asap. Im slightly worried about this office move as i have a feeling it will turn the office more cooperate and make it harder for me to change team.

looks like my worries/concers were valid had a team meeting that was only scheduled for 30 mins but ended up being 130 mins people went OFF and there is clearly issues in this company/ team. the female in my team even went as far and shat on the company direction.

:deadmanny:

maybe my posts are making it seem worse than it is, the company is a legit startup with money i have never worked for a startup before so dont really know what to expect.

The problem with my team seems like people in the team dont want to merge x and y team into z so currently there is a clear divide which is visible. Apparently this merge idea came up when the team went on business trip for a week this summer and since then it still seems like x and y havent merged the only reason im even on z team is because im a new starter im going to have to shadow both teams. in the meeting at one point they even referred to the merge as a project which is a bit worrying.

The main reason this merge has not gone through yet from what i heard and understood in this meeting is because they want both teams to use one channel for communication however this channel of communication project is being lead by people in the US office and the people in my team dont seem to like this channel and think that the US people are not doing enough in thsi project and not doing enough work in general. The female in my team even went in on the global manager and indirectly said she is not doing anything.

I cannot/ do not want to switch jobs anyway i just moved to this apartment so i have to stay to September 2020 once my probation is up in 3 months I'll start speaking to my manager and tell her i want to switch team if things are not going anywhere for now im just chilling dont want to show my cards this early on

Update :

I've been passively coasting on a few "consulting" gigs for the last 2 quarters.
The money is whatever and has kept my mind sharp at least in the problem
solving aspect.

The partnership fell through due to lack of trust/brexit uncertainty and
my wanton reluctance to relocate and micromanage personnel plus I suspected
the other party might have looked to flog shady investment for the short term pay-off instead
of building a long term profitable business.

I did get offered a 3 month contract for some group based in London but I don't think
being in a corporate structure that I don't own or control would be beneficial
for me unless i'm learning a new skill and adding it to my arsenal.

Had a video call/interview today for a placement company. I wanted the IT program but they said they only have a sales position open now:mjcry:It went well. Sent me an assignment where i gotta come up with a cold call script and cold call email for a client.

Preciate it but I ended up turning Down that offer and looking Into the mortgage loan officer license.

This the last (negative) update ima give on the transportation company but I had to let another driver go. She agreed to a contract, then later told me she didn’t understand the terms that were in it:gucci::deadmanny:so she wanted out, cool. She also was late multiple times & was arguing with her supervisors, so the performance just wasn’t there. 30 years old thinking this type of behavior was acceptable.
It’s Interesting to be on the other side. It makes me wonder if that’s how people act in the civilian sector in general, or is it just in the transportation industry the people just aren’t as “polished”

I’m all for sticking it to the man but I’m not here for the foolishness

fukk Columbus, but thank you for the day off. It’s cool because I work from home on Mondays, so when a holiday falls on a Monday, I get to work from home on Tuesday instead. :blessed:

I’m taking off work the week of my birthday. It’s also the same week I have a break from school. I need to break from both. After that, two more semesters left.

It’s trial and error. Employees suck at most companies.

Find a good worker who is professional and reliable is worth more than the salary.
I see it every day, its crazy how good workers can keep a operation afloat despite poor leadership, but vice versa doesn't work.

What some people think is acceptable work activity boggles my mind
