@Blackthoughts I think this thread has some merit. HipHop hasn't been the same since.

No room for the hardcore sound after that. 50 was the last one to be mainstream & then fell out of the light at around this time. That 50 album wasn't good though so maybe he has himself to blame more than anything.

The Curtis album wasn't good but "I get money" was a strong enough single to propel that album to sell more than Graduation 1st week, now after ppl consumed the album and realized it wasn't good then I could see Graduation surpassing it. I think the fact that 50 promised to retire is the reason ppl bought multiple copies of Graduation. That little marketing ploy by 50 was to his detriment. He should've done something to encourage his haters to buy his album. He could've promised to never drop another Tony Yayo album if he sold more than Kanye, some type of gimmick like that would've better than promising to retire if he lost because at that time he had too many haters that were encouraged to buy Graduation just to see him go away.

I'll pose a politician question. Is Hip Hop better today than it was 6 years ago?

no but 6-10 years ago when niccas were releasing good music, nobody was buying. Ye's graduation album is flat out better than 50 cent

5 years ago Big Boi released Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, nobody bought that shyt and it was a good album. :manny:

This is true people got tired of 50 laughing and checking the soundscans on other artists. People wanted him to lose at the end of the day the entire showdown was good for both camps because money was made. :manny:

That shyt is the reason you have all these suburban soft ass rappers today. That is the reason that you have the Drakes, Tyga, Kid Cudi etc. Had 50 won that sales battle on Sept.11 2007 the streets would be more represented in hiphop today. The record labels threw their money behind the suburban shyt once Kanye sold more records than Curtis. That shyt drastically changed the climate in hiphop. I think people bought the graduation album just to see 50 retire like he said he would if he lost the bet.

You act like Pre C4 Wayne, Jeezy, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, 2Chainz, etc. etc. etc. etc. don't exist. OP is a dumbass.

And to answer who's selling records? It doesn't matter, it's all about that show money these days

the people chose those album sales, meaning no matter what, this was going to happen regardless.

i think that 50 losing that war was definately a turning point in hip hop without a doubt, but it was one that was coming.

i mean this was the same year yayo was saying lord superb wrote supreme clientele, the same year he was on BET saying "500,000 is failure if you are used to going platinum"

change was going to happen no matter what, you cant be on top forever.

Curtis was trash outside of 4 tracks.

u want garbage to win?

I want garbage to win the battle if it helps real shyt win the war. In the end we have to admit that in the end hip hop lost. Now if you like suburban music from suburban artist then you are wallowing in this current music like a pig in a pen full of feces, if you like the Macklemore's, Wiz Khalifa's, Tyga's, Drake's, Cudi's, B.O.B's etc. then you should bow if ever in the presence of Kanye because he's to thank for that lane being open.

hip hop was going that direction no matter what. 50 cent would win and still you're see Drake and them guys make it.

hip hop is forever changing.
