@Blackthoughts I think this thread has some merit. HipHop hasn't been the same since.
No room for the hardcore sound after that. 50 was the last one to be mainstream & then fell out of the light at around this time. That 50 album wasn't good though so maybe he has himself to blame more than anything.
The Curtis album wasn't good but "I get money" was a strong enough single to propel that album to sell more than Graduation 1st week, now after ppl consumed the album and realized it wasn't good then I could see Graduation surpassing it. I think the fact that 50 promised to retire is the reason ppl bought multiple copies of Graduation. That little marketing ploy by 50 was to his detriment. He should've done something to encourage his haters to buy his album. He could've promised to never drop another Tony Yayo album if he sold more than Kanye, some type of gimmick like that would've better than promising to retire if he lost because at that time he had too many haters that were encouraged to buy Graduation just to see him go away.
