I hate the NCAA but that one year of college ball can get his name/brand a whole lot bigger for a bigger bag in the long run:yeshrug:
That’s the trade off.
now watch the contrast in reaction when lamelo announces hes playing in that same league
Lamelo won’t be the one announcing it. His loud ass daddy will, and then he’ll tell the world how the Breakers can beat any NBA team including Golden State.

Not for any of us to judge TBH...16 year olds can enlist in the Marines and nobody bats an eye :manny:

If colleges are concerned with the talent pipeline into their programs...now would be a good time for them to start re-examining their policies on student-athlete compensation :manny:

Uncertain grounds
This is a dope move

Id do the same thing, fukk it

Get your money, live in a beautiful country that also speaks english and will probably provide free housing, then come over and play in the nba

He could always go to college for an education after he makes his money if he so chooses

College sports is not going anywhere. Their fanbase are the alumni of the schools. Those fans are going to cheer for their school no matter who's playing. You guys say this as if every high school player in America is going to start skipping college. The reality is this is only a viable option for the top 5-10 or o premier talents. There's still plenty of talent left. The Steph Curry's, Damian Lillard's, Ja Morant's are always going to be there for college
It actually helps the college game tbh, if guys aren't ranked highly coming in or after their first year of college they'll be more inclined to stay to boost their stock. One and done actually hurts the college game. Duke would still be Duke without a Zion, an RJ, or a Cam. Always have always will.

Imagine had he done this at Syracuse in the tournament. Dude would be a top 10 pick. Now he's lost out on millions. Look I want these guys to get paid but I'm just not seeing the benefit of them skipping school. Zion could have done it I'm certain him being on national TV and killing it has made him ALOT of money in shoe negotiations. shyt Nike going want to give him the bag just because his shoe blew open and they need a PR spin for that.

He already has an shoe deal with New Balance worth $14 mil. Considering Kawhi got $20 mil deal from NB, I'd say he got a very good entry level shoe deal. We'll see where he gets drafted, but he's climbing up the boards already in a draft that has a lot of uncertainty after pick #4.

The NBL is very wise. They're an English-speaking country, so they have an advantage here because, though I would have been adventurous enough at 18 to go to another country with a different official language to play basketball, I get why most people would absolutely not feel that way.

Australia and New Zealand have McDonald's, Burger King (well, Macca's and Hungry Jack's, but whatever, same thing), and probably don't feel so different from the United States that it's too alienating. It's also wise for them to not count potential college players against their international player counts. If they can peel off one or two top-twenty players a year eventually, that'll be big for their league.

ESPN needs to get the rights to the NBL and put it on ESPN+ because I'd absolutely watch this.

I dont mind athletes skipping college but RJ is trash this has more to do with him not getting exposed in college more than anything. If he's average in Australia he has a better chance of getting drafted high cuz he can use the excuse that it was a completely new experience.

His pops was his high school coach and he got to do whatever he wanted. He gives off that soft inefficienct chucker vibes who's team always loses against decent competition.

I don’t wanna shyt on the brotha, but you’re pretty much 100% on point. Kids a chucker, and cries. A LOT. He’s got some talent tho. He’ll get the ‘cry baby, pampered american’ stereotype after his season in Australia. Just watch.

If he was "trash" I don't think he would have continued to keep being invited to Team USA u-18 camps for the past few yeas

He’s definitely not trash.. but look up his youtube highlights. The kid could play.. but even in the highlights you can see him crying and moping. And homeboy just chucks it up every time down :heh:

I agree. I’m somewhere in the middle. There’s way too many kids that think they’re ready for the league, and it’s just not the case. There’s not a Lebron. Or a Kobe. Or a KG. Or a TMac every year. When kids were allowed to declare right after high school, think back. The league got hella watered down. Teams made a lot of bad picks. It set teams back. And before someone says that it’s on the teams for drafting them, they technically shouldn’t have been allowed in the draft in the first place. :yeshrug:

But are we sure he didn’t grow up and train even better knowing he could focus on hoops.

Also he wasn’t a top 10 recruit to my knowledge so why are you sure he would have been this at Syracuse
