great series, the best on netflix since squid game, which it tops. might be netflix’ best series ever, dark being the only one that gives it a challenge for that honor.

although his role didn’t amount to much for most of the series, the final two episodes really let jovan adepo’s acting chops shine through.

looking forward to seeing where his role goes. i am tempted to read the final two books in the series during the wait for a 2nd season - which, if renewed, probably won’t debut until 2026. i’ve read that there are still a few major twists that have yet to be revealed.

dunno if i want to spoil myself.

Great season and they set this up for pretty good second season. This is a big story and its gonna cost Netflix a bunch of money if they gonna keep going.

The acting is pretty bad for the most part. Theres zero chemistry between all the characters that are supposed to be old friends.

The lazy dialogue they were given doesn't help either. Never watched GOT but I'm assuming this is a pretty big drop off in quality. The whole thing feels kind of messy tbh.

That being said the concept is interesting and some of the visuals are cool, so I can finish watching it.

Agreed 100%

I'm on episode 6 now - not sure if these are answered further down the show, but I have a few things I'm struggling to reconcile and I'm hoping someone here has some insights:

episode 2 - when they first got in touch, the messenger said - "Do not answer. I am a pacifist in this world. You're lucky I'm the first to see your message. I am warning you: do not answer. If you respond, we will come. Your world will be conquered."

am I wrong in reading an implication there that we're not the first "intelligent" species they've made contact with? The message seems to describe a pattern of action the San-Ti take/have taken - to the point the messenger included a disclaimer/qualifier of them being a "pacifist" amongst their people. If this is the case, and if their "issue" is an unstable/volatile home world - why not just move to one of their existing colonies?

Similarly, if we're the first "intelligent" species they've made contact with - the question still remains - they've mastered interstellar travel - why not just "move" to one of the millions/billions of earth-like/stable planets?

episode 4 - the San-Ti seem to struggle with the concept of "lying"/hiding intentions/being deceitful - partially because they seemingly communicate via some form of telepathy - moreover, they seemed shook at/of our capacity to lie and be deceitful to the point they outright said "we are afraid of you" - and abandoned their acolytes for it - "a liar cannot be trusted. we cannot coexist with liars". But on episode 5 the San-Ti say that one of their Sophons has been in our solar system for months, sent to our planet to "destroy" our science - "In place of truth, we give you miracles". How is this reconciled?
It's been a while since I read the books, but from what I remember, the San-ti understand the sociology of the Universe, they won't reach out in fear of being destroyed by a more advanced civilization. Humans are stupid lol we reached out and now look... it's the Dark Forest hypothesis

Yeah, essentially a variation of "killer probes" not sure I can bring myself to believe countless potential civilizations would subscribe to it though. Also, "dark forest", for me, works as a narrative setting, but it falls short as motivation - we would have been detected long before we sent those messages out if that was the case. but it's still very interesting premise. show was entertaining and it sounds as though the books are dope
