This was a nice surprise. I haven't been gripped by a show like this since the original Utopia.

Was the joke that Ye Wenjie told to Saul connected to the reasons for why he was chosen as a Wallfacer?
Utopia blew my mind. I not a conspiracy kinda dude, but the overlap w/ covid was a little unnerving. I'm overdue for a rewatch.

As for the spoiler, I don't want to ruin anything... If you liked the tv show, you will love the books so I say go that route and get the full ride when you are even more invested... It'll be a long wait for season 2 (if it's renewed and the fact that this thread fell to the 2nd page of The Film isn't promising....)

Really enjoyed this, hope it comes back for another season. Not perfect, but delivers some incredible moments and has a few of the best scenes I've seen on TV this year. The initial mystery really hooked me.

Can someone please explain to me what a cryogenic head was supposed to do in outer space when it got to its destination
It's a long shot....

They're hoping the aliens have the technology to revive the brain and communicate with him. Then they are hoping that he gathers intel and finds a way to communicate it back to earth.

Man I’m on episode 7 and I really need them to do something with the cancer victim and black guy. Their characters seem like wastes in this show

Finished it.

Premise was interesting enough to keep me watching but I thought it could have been a lot better.

I agree with someone who mentioned that the acting was subpar. It wasn't believeable that these were the top physicists in the world, that Wade was that high up as far as a government figure. That whole mission to send a probe, from concept to actual execution seemed like it was glossed over and not explained enough. Introducing the Wallfacers at the last episode didn't make sense, especially picking Saul as one of them.

The best part of the show was whenever Will was on screen as well as Da Shi. Auggie was anoying as hell and not least believable character same with Jack.

The Panama canal scene with the nano fibers though was an amazingly terrifying scene.

They should've done 10 episodes. That woulda made it easier for them to explain the science behind some of the decisions and things that were happening.

I just finished it. I enjoyed it. I thought the individual characters were kinda shallow; with a 'Friends' kinda vibe. You have this close knit group of financially well off buddies that lean on to each other rather than family even in the most life altering events. The science in the show was cool, and I wish they would have leaned into it more. It was very reminiscent of the 90s movie Contact. I thought reading more about the books and the overall narrative would get me more excited, but its done the opposite. I'll watch if another season comes out though.
