My point is that if a guy leaves college and has a gap in between reaching success in rapping it doesn't mean he sold drugs and became a kingpin in that timespan. He could've been working a regular job or living off someone else. I realize half these trap rappers never sold a drug in their life and based on experience the real trappers don't have the vocabulary to be good at rapping. Well most of them don't. It's easier for a Plies to dumb down than it is for your local drug dealer to make 18 songs making words rhyme in a 16 bar pattern.
We don't know this though. I don't know what 2 Chainz was doing between the time he left school and Duffle Bag Boy. All we know is that he got signed to DTP and did God knows what while Dolla Boy was locked up. Could he have been in them streets to support himself while he was waiting for his rap dreams to take off? Maybe. I also know there are rappers that do talk about the relatively generic life they led prior to getting their big break. Hell, there are rappers that generally talk about their otherwise ordinary life NOW and either don't sell (Consequence, Rhymefest) or get shytted on by others (Mac Miller, Wale)
