Sounds like it's more or less in line with previous Finals:

On a linear basis, the World Cup final ranks fifth all-time among soccer matches in the United States behind the match window figures for the 2015 Women’s World Cup Final (USWNT-Japan: 26.7M), 2014 Germany-Argentina men’s final (26.7M), 2014 USMNT-Portugal group stage match (24.7M) and 2010 Spain-Netherlands final (24.3M).

Just like the Olympics gets good ratings but nobody is watching track and field outside of that.

I believe game 6 of the NBA finals was 14 million and game 6 of the World Series was 13 million. So for the World Cup to get 26 million is pretty impressive for the US. Especially a game at 10 AM with the West Coast having to watch at 7 am. Time to admit that Soccer is right up there with baseball in this country at the very least.

Caveat is that the World Cup is an every four year massive world event. What do the Champions League finals numbers look or other season games

Its very telling that the a sport Americans generally don't care about does better TV ratings than the NBA finals, the NHL finals and the MLB finals. Of course the NFL is different but that's 3 of the big 4 sports in the US

It does show interest when comparing it to sports outside of the NFL
true. I'm not on some anti soccer shyt, with more context agreed

I mean if the Finals or the World Series were one game only the ratings would be a helluva lot higher for them. It’s why football is king cause every game matters in the playoffs.
This argument is not very good.

If the MLB or NBA finals was 1 game , they still won't touch Superbowl numbers.

Game 7's in the NBA don't do NFL regular season game numbers.

The NFL is just way more popular than any other American sport. The superbowl is the most watched TV program irregardless of category.

Oh no doubt. I’m just saying that the ratings would be closer to the World Cup numbers I’d imagine. Football runs shyt here in the US and will do so for at least another generation.

42 million people watched a regular season cowboys game on THANKSGIVING.

not really the stat you want to use to show us' interest in soccer
ok, so coming in #2 is a bad thing for a sport (MLS) that's a general afterthought domestically? it's actually a really great stat to show there is interest that can be nurtured here with more marketing and earlier exposure

That's like the 15th best league in the world excluding the regional ones.

My guess is that people in Denmark or Switzerland are more likely to watch the Champions league or World cup final than their league.
