The 8-4 and fiery moats
Haven't read through the entire thread but I can guess all the reactions. I'm mixed on this cuz on one side I'm glad black actors are getting more roles, but I just don't like them changing races for the random sake of it. Didn't like it when they did it with Idris in Thor either. This is doing almost as much harm than good cuz it lessens the few black actors we have to play these already limited original black super hero roles in the live action movies. As tired as this argument is, I would've felt a lot more comfortable with Idris as Black Panther than all these other mentions showing up lately. I feel Michael B. Jordan would have a lot of potential as another super hero than the Human Torch. It's almost like they're giving these random white roles to black actors so they can limit the amount of originally written black comic book characters on the big screen. This might also make em feel like they get more leeway with the idea of giving black super hero roles to other white actors. :mjpls:Be like "oh you dudes want a Black Panther movie so much...:troll:T'Challa as Matt Damon nikkas! Dude can do a great accent :steviej:"

:salute:Still props to the homie for getting the role. I hope this gives him more exposure.

He's not even more famous than Wolverine.
Dudes in here don't even really read comics, nor are they into the shyt.

It's really just a MBJ circle jerk. Superman is actually one of the most boring characters in comics and nobody really likes him. All you have to do is check the sales of certain titles, read the major message boards around the net.

I would go as far as saying that Deadpool is more popular than Superman.

Obviously everyone knows the "S". It's iconic. But nobody fukks with Big Blue.

Yeah when it comes to comics, Action Comics and Superman aren't doing too hot. Batman and Spider-Man and a litany of other titles constantly get more acclaim and more sales. Superman is a tough character to get right but when you do get him right, you get great stories and great books

i look at it this way. would you guys be pissed if Storm was played by a white haired white woman instead of halle berry? :mjpls:

as a black man, i would.... the only storm i know is of african descent and from New Yawk. it makes absolutely no sense to make johnny storm black..
that's not the same thing because there isnt any over saturation of BLACK characters in films.

so because you feel there's an oversaturation of white comic book characters, you propose casting them as african-americans.

are you an advocate of changing them to other races as well? Asian Batman? Indian Spidey? samoan hulks?

Would a Deadpool movie gross 400 mil???

Man Of Steel broke the all time opening weekend record for June. Plenty of people are still interested in Superman.

I'm sure Justin Bieber sold more copies of his last album than Paul McCartney did. Guess who still has the bigger following.

They did a white Goku. It could of worked if the movie itself was good.

The Human Torch isnt a stand alone hero with his own movie, sO comparing the two isnt the best to make your point.

An Asian Batman would work. America has more races than just white.

The only reason there are so many white heroes is because it is done out of tradition using old white supremacy values. In the future, you will see an Asian American Batman

Supes is more familiar, especially with kids.

Poor comparison since any Deadpool movie would have to be rated R to be even remotely watchable and therefore not gross as much as a Superman movie

So the ONLY reason a Deadpool movie wouldn't gross the same as a Superman movie is because Deadpool isn't as kid friendly.

You know... because rated-R movies don't gross any money.

I'm sure that's the ONLY reason.

At no point in any of the posts I have made in this thread did I suggest that.

You suggested Deadpool was more popular than SUPERMAN.
He is...using moviegoers as a gauge of this is silly because the majority of moviegoers are clueless when it comes to source material or these characters and will go simply because it's the summer blockbuster, the trailers, the advertising machine behind the movie and yes the fact that a movie is PG-13 means there will be greater chance of penetration among the moviegoer population.

I'm not pulling this out of my ass...it's a science dude.
