maybe someone like shapiro, who won in 2022 in the middle of record inflation :yeshrug:

with the #1 issue being the economy, it was TOO easy for republicans to label bidenflation as harrisflation. they spent her entire 3 months whacking her on "why haven't you fixed this, you caused it"

imagine a brand new Dem, who didn't have to take responsibility for any of that :wow:

They did fix it.

of course it's not gonna happen. it was a stupid, empty promise that he made while he was campaigning, because he was trying to come up with a slogan that made him sound tough, and he has no idea how policy works

no one around him is gonna let him put real tariffs in place

To be fair he put some in place last time, which are still in effect and driving up costs in manufacturing/construction. But he's threatening new tariffs that will impact every day goods. Most Americans aren't buying steel. But when an iPhone/TV/etc goes up 20-30% it's gonna be a problem for folks.

My fear is that Xi is gonna play him like a fiddle on this. China will protect itself, as is their right. But any headline of China doing anything on trade will make Trump respond because that's how his brain works: react to headlines, create headlines, be overly aggressive until your opponent folds.

Looking at this more and man....there was no policy issue to fix this. There was no vice president choice to fix this. This was simply about the same thing that has happened in multiple western democracies since covid: incumbents getting smoked due to inflation, high prices, etc. The thing that kills me is that inflation has been dropping for months, the Fed hit the soft landing (perfectly), the jobs market has been humming....everything was there but the costs simply didn't lower fast enough for enough people.

I hope people realize that's the ball game. It's basically over from here. Trump will replace Alito and Thomas. He'll add more federal judges. He'll decimate a lot of government jobs, which black people have traditionally benefited from. Ukraine is fukked. Iran is fukked. More stupid policy towards China. And more privatization of government. And Elon with a hand in all of it. I'm sick.

Only saving grace is that Trump will crash the economy if he gets his way on tariffs. Just based on my vantage point in finance....a lot of people simply don't believe the tariff shyt is going to happen. And he has plenty of people in his camp advising him against it. The problem is that there are others pushing for it, and sooner or later he's gonna do what he always does and make idiotic terrible decisions.

her FTC chairwoman had a berth of policies that straight up never made it to heartland of america.

seemingly due to the fact that same FTC chairwoman made VC upsets their mergers weren't going through as fast.

but how, ohio is red state and he outran harris campaign by 2 million votes and trump's by 1 million

the economy is viewed as bad rn and that perception lead to people falling away from the dems.

why didn't those trump/brown voters vote for harris?
Ohio is racist as fukk, its's basically the south.

People have been talking about how the alt right pipeline is affecting young men for over a decade now. Democrats didn't take it seriously.
The late great lawyer Clarence Darrow said that the first half of our lives are ruined by our parents and the second half by our children.

republicans aren't stupid, they know this. they'll sit him down in private, and tell him how it works. and they'll give him an area or two that he can lay tariffs on, just so he can act like a tough guy

but the whole premise was always eliminating the income tax, to replace with tariffs. that seems unlikely. congress has to write that bill :dead:
