If the Democratic Party wants to kick out the left from the coalition and zero out the youth vote to become a center-right party of middle aged Suburbanite MSNBC watchers voting for bottomless funding for Cold War era foreign entanglements and anti-trans bathroom bans, they will never win a national election again. So is the issue trans people or an ignorant and gulliable public that'll believe any absurd conspiracy? I feel like even if Dems abandoned championing trans rights some new absurd conspiracy will be used against them. Dems need to stop letting the right define them and desperately need to create their own media ecosystem that rivals what's on the right. We need our own propaganda machine that stirs people's emotions and primal fears. The electorate is a mob that can be swayed in almost any direction with the right propaganda.

The average person just thinks trans people are weird and a headache but have no strong views towards them until republicans make them think they’re coming for their kids and their sports.

Democrats won by a razor thin margin in 2020 with a sitting president dealing with a pandemic. The question. For them is to how to go from every national election being a toss up. For one, they have to consolidate the Latino vote - and Chuck Rocha - the guy who ran Sanders’ Latino outreach and handled it for the state candidates in Nevada is a guy they should bring into a position of prominence and listen to.

The second thing is they need to make it cool for men to be Democrats again - as of now - men vote Democrat out of sense of obligation, not out of a sense of pride of belief that the party has their back. They struggle with this because they don’t have many straight dudes in charge of male outreach or men at all. The people they do have hold no weight.

Third, they need to reclaim the youth vote. That means going everywhere young people - especially men - are being fed right wing ish and engaging with it and fighting back.

Fourth, they need a simple organizing principle. They need to accept that most Americans do not believe the American dream is obtainable right now and resent how hard it is to manage everything. They need to lean into rebuilding the American dream.

dems didn’t snuff the issue out and kept pandering to the trans community as if they had any legitimacy or reasonable political demands. At no point should dems have allowed the sports thing to continue. It’s a core violation of the normie coalition.

The thing about the trans issue is that it’s like finding out mid-argument that someone thinks the earth is flat. At that point, it supersedes any other ability for you to take the other person seriously or value their opinion in any way to reach common ground if they refute such a fundamental aspect of reality by even entertaining such a ludicrous thought.
