on the subject of populism, and institutions, you can see where in 2015/2016, Trump attacked institutional leaders, and structures, and long held ideas, across the parties

and the GOP basically released their grip, in a lot of cases, while Democrats began to cling tighter and tighter to the institutions, you can see this like the FBI fever, the media, the reverence for Special Counsel investigations, the FDA, the CDC, DOJ, SEC, the frameworks of government. The Pentagon. The DOD. Things that previously were kind of criticized by the Democrats, esp. like an Obama figure.

They weren't watching the shifting tide in the voter blocs. And right there you can see the shift.
But that’s also what ended up being his down fall in 2020 though.

It’s all fine and good to question institutions when you are doing okay. But once the pandemic hit. That mistrust he inspired turned to people drinking bleach which even at someone’s craziest isn’t something you want a leader to say.

Dems went from, "Trump is the greatest threat of our lifetimes! :damn:" to, "Oh, he won. Ah well. We'll get em next time. :manny:"

Mixed messaging.

If non MAGA takes to face to face and does action (violently), people complain.

When Non MAGA becomes civil, people complain.

The smart ones gave all out of fukks to give.

I lived through the 80s and 90s when the biggest issue for lower class whites bar none was ending welfare and cutting government spending to hurt poor black people. At that time we hadn’t even felt the full impact of Neo liberal policies like NAFTA so they were doing relatively well economically especially compared to black people. But they still wanted to take stuff from poor black people even voting for Reagan and Bush to gut their communities. They continued to vote for them.

Now these young dudes want me to buy that the reason the same group of people have shifted even further right is due to “economic anxiety”? :mjlol:

Bull fukking shyt.
These dudes are trying to rationalize racism which is inherently irrational

Brehs smarter than me, how worried should I be about the DOE being dismantled, living in NJ? My son is almost 3 and I’ve always had it in my mind that I was going to supplement his school learning with shyt we do at home (something my mom did for my sister and I when we were little that really helped us advance). But it feels like that’s going to be a necessity now. In my head, I feel like NJ schools should be fine since we’re a fairly self sufficient state anyway right?
