32min in Van nails it. Republican messaging is so simple. Dems doing calculus. Repubs doing basic addition and subtraction

I've long said this. GOP is a master at this. They take something simple and amplify it. Woke, DEI, MAGA. Rinse and repeat.

Oh my sweet summer child. It wasn’t just civil rights. It was the Vietnam protests, women liberation, counter culture movement and probably other culture war issues coming out of the 60s into the 70s.

The southern strategy wasn’t based on economics.

Like a wise poet from Memphis once told us, don’t save her, she don’t wanna be saved.
Low key you’re who these guys think @mastermind is but because you dunk on the white working class guys like @wire28 don’t see it. You were willing to not vote for the Dem candidate based on opposition to a war knowing the ramifications for everything else but then turnaround and pretend that anyone who isn’t voting Dem all the time has some sort of chemical imbalance that can’t be cured. It’s entirely impossible that people might stay home or not be motivated to vote based on economic concerns. The idea that the white working class is in the way of progress exclusively is pretty funny - you even went as far as to say bad politicians aren’t the problem when these politicians literally have been offering right wing policy solutions until 2020. Most data post election shows that voters didn’t believe they Democrats addressed their economic concerns even though Democrats believed that they had. There was a clear disconnect. And even more, the white working class vote stayed basically the same and every single demographic but white people over 60 shifted to Trump but I’m sure it’s because everyone was following the guidelines from the white working class.

It’s okay for you to potentially fukk everyone over because of a Middle East conflict but when people say let’s push forth solutions and policies that drive turnout of all colors you throw your hands up and says it’s pointless because of racism so why even try and just lose and when those of us who have actually been out there say that’s it makes a difference you try to talk down to us while offering 0 solutions or evidence of involvement.

You’re useless.

but why is the working class only white? It's not true, esp. in places in Southern Cali. In San Diego, there are sections of historic black areas that went red. There are places in all Mexican areas that went red. These are low low income places, but they aren't like hicks. These voters aren't all hillbillies. That's the same bullshyt from 2016. and those are trends that are followed and the line the election was lost on. 1% of voters across swing states.

People in AZ, Michigan, Nevada. If you followed the story in Las Vegas, a lot of the voters are Democrat, or were formerly. A lot of Mexicans in there. A lot of reachable voters.

You can't win with just the hyper edcuated liberal managerial technocrat class in coastal cities. I told my Dad that. and he said "well I wouldn't want to be uneducated" lol

Trump has 4 years left, I just don’t see how or why other republicans would willingly make him a dictator knowing they’ll be done with him in 4 years. Would be understandable if the man was in his 60s, but he’s 80. I think the next 4 years will be dysfunctional fukkery from them no doubt. But unless you have some full on coup from the military I don’t see how it can happen

I think a large swath of white people did leave the Dems because of racial resentment. I also think you have to factor in how bad the 1970s was for people as the country started deindustrialization, Japan and South Korea manufactured goods better and cheaper than Americans and OPEC became a force causing an energy crisis.

Saying it was only due to the civil rights movement misses the whole story.

The Dems chose neoliberalism starting with Jimmy Carter’s presidency.

And despite that, the opening was there as Barack Hussein Obama won a large chunk of working class whites votes back in 2008 and Bernie was winning them in ‘16 and ‘20.
Stagflation is just completely forgotten about it seems

I’m basing my opinion on 400 years of American history, not wishful thinking.

The last 160 years alone have proven time and time again that white poor/working/middle class people will place whiteness above all else.

You are caught up in wishful thinking in order to push progressive ideology. Progressive ideology is good enough on its merits. You don’t have to naively believe it will bring certain groups into the fold. Its not.

They are just not that into you.

If they were, poor/working/middle class whites would not be voting in droves for the party pushing policies that hurt them economically.

Jesus, some of yall are like new born fukking babies god.

A lot of people may not see it now, but a lot of Trump supporters that are not white are legit in fear that non MAGA is going to go the violent route. Like what happened to Nick Spencer, once the opposite side shows force, they run away.

Are you serious??? The dumbest shyt since the election. MAGA whites have been nothing but hostile towards non white MAGA pre and post election.

All non white MAGAs are about to get that nikka wakeup call.

I lived through the 80s and 90s when the biggest issue for lower class whites bar none was ending welfare and cutting government spending to hurt poor black people. At that time we hadn’t even felt the full impact of Neo liberal policies like NAFTA so they were doing relatively well economically especially compared to black people. But they still wanted to take stuff from poor black people even voting for Reagan and Bush to gut their communities. They continued to vote for them.

Now these young dudes want me to buy that the reason the same group of people have shifted even further right is due to “economic anxiety”? :mjlol:

Trump picked up larger gains amongst black/brown working class than white working class. The white supremacist rationale doesn't comport with the data.
