Cody Rhodes signed new WWE contract in October

Rhodes is the latest in high-profile re-signings in the TKO era.

Cody Rhodes will be in WWE for a while longer as he signed a new contract with the company in October, according to our Dave Meltzer.

The news comes on the heels of a Fightful report that WWE was looking to sign Rhodes to a new deal imminently as it was a priority for TKO leadership.

The length and financial terms of the new contract is unknown, but Meltzer said it was a similar timing situation to Charlotte Flair where it was learned this month she signed a new contract months prior.

After co-founding AEW in 2019, Rhodes announced in February 2022 that he and wife, Brandi, would not be returning to the company. He then signed with WWE and made his return after six years away, defeating Seth Rollins at April's WrestleMania 39 after being revealed as Rollins' surprise opponent.

Since returning, Rhodes won the 2023 men's Royal Rumble match and then headlined WrestleMania 40, but was unable to wrest the undisputed WWE Universal title from Roman Reigns in Los Angeles. He also missed considerable time due to a torn pectoral muscle.

Rhodes has already declared for the 2024 men's Royal Rumble match in hopes of getting another title opportunity.

In the new TKO era, WWE has been busy with new contracts as both Rey and Dominik Mysterio have also inked new deals.

Mfers is hyping up Ali... What's next revisionist history on Terry Taylor. Cody and Cardona will always be mid carders too me. Lol at Swerve and Ali being compared. Sneaky Swerve is the best all around signing not name mjf in aew history. (Though I'm not a fan of face mjf, but he's still their best overall signing)

I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. When given the mic time, his promos came across as try hard and out of breath...not the good flair out of breath type promos, but the out of breath he's blown up, breath, pace yourself promos when it's in front of a live crowd. Not impressed with a pretaped, edited, take 25 video. His wrestling is average. E has plenty of undersized flippy dudes with more personality and better promo and in ring skills.

Fightful has a different story

Fightful reported Friday that WWE was looking to imminently re-sign him. This weekend, Wrestling Observer reported that a deal was signed in October, but sources close to Cody himself claim that there's some confusion on that front.

Their claim is that the approach and initial offer from WWE was made in October, but no deal was signed at that point. One is expected to be signed, and an agreement is in place, we're told

There were several wrestlers that were also under the impression Rhodes had re-signed, or was going to imminently.
