Breh, they're meddling way too much. Stop trying to make my school into Bible study :why:
That's not what people are talking about outside of twitter or whatever trends nationally. You can't say you back teachers after the 2018 mess, get a budget surplus, look at an absurd and growing teacher shortage, and do nothing.

I'm a school aged parent in NC?

People go to school board meetings and county meetings to discuss school pay only to be met by goofies trying to distract from that to talk about teachers pushing woke issues and mask fights. Damn near every Union County meeting was met with that mess.

I have to hear about it because my girls kids goes to school out here.

In CMS the conversation is much more focused on teacher pay, school funding, and general safety of students, and mask guidelines to a lesser extent-- that's where my son is.

either way, school board races are some of the hottest tickets going on throughout the state and they aren't doing so only over pay.

that's not where the problem started or where its going to evolve

what teachers and policy makers push when class starts is one thing, but it doesn't even matter because there are roughly 5k+ vacancies - so they're forced to take what they can get. and in turn it creates more young people who will happily clap for dumb, short-sighted, fundamentalist views after circling the drain indefinitely. which builds traction for NC's decade long red transition lol....

this compounds with the fact that the last big teachers uproar was backed by the democrats successfully and they laid the blame wholly on the republicans at the time. now? the money is there. the dems don't want to address why its still an issue. and NC teachers make less than Alabama teachers with a giant shortage that makes no sense for a state with a solid, growing economy.

and to go further, look at what states spend more on money per pupil than north carolina. even the charter schools which popped up in NC are feeling the effects of it because the lack of tenured educators even willing to stay in the state altogether has fallen off a cliff.

the bible/convservative shyt is a symptom and media emphasized highlight, not a driver

None of this is the debate between Beasley and Budd.

Here's the dichotomy:

Budd:

Education is critical for a child’s future. As a father of three children who are homeschooled, I strongly believe that parents, not federal officials in Washington, should be in control of their children's education. Every parent in America should have the right to choose the best school for their child.

I also personally attended a public high school and college, so I recognize the importance of what our teachers do every day. That’s why I encourage our schools to teach civics, U.S. history, and reinforce the values that made America great.

Beasley:
Cheri believes that our classrooms should be places of opportunity for all children to realize their abilities, pursue their dreams and gain the skills they need for 21st century jobs. But for too many North Carolina children, their zip code determines the quality of their education and their opportunity to have the best possible future.

Cheri will fight for education funding from cradle to career for all our kids. She supports investing in early childhood education, universal pre-k, and fully funding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Cheri also believes we must invest in our teachers and increase Title I funding to help close gaps between school districts and ensure schools are funded fairly and equitably across every zip code in our state.

To expand pathways beyond high school Cheri supports programs that help students prepare for college, and believes in reforming student loan programs so that our students are not hampered by mountains of debt when they graduate. She also knows that while a four-year degree might be the right choice for some, it is not for everyone. Cheri will work to expand access to community college, apprenticeships, and vocational training programs. She will also fight to increase funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).

Everyone know why teacher pay is low and it's because Republicans control the NC house and Senate and have for the better part of 6 years been pushing budgets to cooper's desk that don't meet the bar.

Please don't tell me you don't believe there is a conservative base of voters who buy into bible/conservative issues with regards to schooling.

These are issues that only aren't law because Cooper is Gov.

:pachaha: Can't blame the media when these are actual bills being passed.

what does beasley/budd have to do with the budget surplus and the past 6 years of "we're with you - but won't pay you". the only reason a growing number support that shyt is because we got a growing number of dumbasses borne from decades of moonwalking education priorities

like there's nothing to disagree about regarding over 5,000 vacancies and a budget that says you got a better chance at education in lousiana and north dakota than north carolina. that shyt is bad. the state and our dem leaders saying its not that bad and blame the republicans - like we didn't already do that in 2018

you are arguing a symptom. that's like.... objectively fact lol. i swear this "only my issues count" shyt is new popping or something

Symptom of what? Since Prayer in schools was banned 60 years ago there has been a push to fight against Godless public schools. Terms like, "kicking God out of the classroom" has been around longer than I've been alive.

Evangelicals and Christian conservative have been fighting these types of "social arguments" for years and those fights have overlapped with racist white grievance about as long. That's why there's little surprise to see overlap among both groups.

what does beasley/budd have to do with the budget surplus and the past 6 years of "we're with you - but won't pay you". the only reason a growing number support that shyt is because we got a growing number of dumbasses borne from decades of moonwalking education priorities

Budd himself has argued that teacher pay is fine and his solution to the shortage in jobs is to put soldiers in the class room. He's sponsored numerous bills and amendments stating such.

I'm not sure what you're attempting to argue here. It's an object fact that we do have vacancies and it's also a fact that Republicans are responsible for approving the budget. I pointed to the vetoes because that's been the theme. Dems request more, Republicans give less, dem vetoes, Republicans give a little but more and not enough.

But to bring it all together, my original point is based off of this stuff from Budd. He doesn't see the teaching vacancies as an issue regarding teachers being underpaid.

He falls in line with decades of Republicans who want to undermine public schools (one of his largest backers is a charter school PAC).

Is this made of by the media or is this rep and US senate candidate Ted Budd going over what he thinks is the REAL problem with schools?

All of this to say is you have one candidate talking about ideas to improve what you find is an issue. Rightly so.

Then you have another candidate whose not concerned about it whatsoever and Instead is worried about "Budd spotlighted that "the U.S. Senate is the last line of defense against becoming a woke, socialist, wasteland. And I’m running to stop that, period."

End of the day, I doubt you could find one piece of information from Ted Budd speaking about low teacher pay.

i cant get outraged about a 5 month abortion ban :yeshrug: thats plenty of time to decide whether you want the kid or not

of course the outliers should get exceptions for the life of the mother, but fighting a 5 month abortion ban seems crazy to me. frankly it seems like a loser, that gives republicans ammo

how many women are even waiting til month 6 to get an abortion :why:
