If you watch the clip, KD and Jrue both had the option of stepping in for a midrange jumper, no traffic.
Gobert started to close out on KD then realized he wasn't going to affect the shot. If KD had put the ball down and taken a couple steps inside then Gobert was gonna meet him there. You're right that Jrue could have gotten an open 18-footer if he wanted it, but his #'s from 18 feet are barely different than his #'s from 3pt and he was already 3-5 from 3pt on the day.

Midrange is KDs bread and butter.

KD midrange - 55%

Jrue Holiday 3pt - 35 %

Jrue Holiday 2pt - 49 %

You do the math
Where did you get those made-up numbers? :why:

KD this season was 45% from 3pt and 48.7% on long mids. For his career he's 38% on 3pt and 44% on long mids. The difference is tiny, far less than the difference between winning and simply tying (as KD himself could tell you from recent experience).

Jrue this year was 39% from 3pt and 40% on long mids. For his career he's 36% from 3pt and 39.6% from long mids.

There's almost NO difference in their %'s and then you're gonna get 6 feet closer to the defense and give them an extra second to close out on you? All to take a shot that will only tie the game and not win it?

The most important shot in FIBA is a 22 to 23 foot jumpshot

The least important and most discouraged shot in the NBA is a 22 to 23 foot jumpshot.

It's drilled into them to avoid that shot at all costs

Every time the USA loses games internationally, the losses are filled with good NBA 3 point shooters clanging large amounts of wide open 22 to 23 foot jumpers

I figured out the answer to how and why

I'm a genius :yeshrug:

The NBA corner 3pt is at 22 feet and it's one of the most money shots in the league and is super encouraged breh. :skip:

Also France shot like shyt from 3pt this game. :picard:

You're gonna have to go back to the drawing board with that theory. :pachaha:

America still has the most talented team. Javele McGee would start for 99% of the teams in the games. The problem is chemistry, coaching and hunger.

For America to stand a chance at hold they need to keep the rotation to 8 guys and allow them develop some kind of rhythm. But I dont think Pop will do that and the other players check their egos.

Kd could easily average 30 a game, but will some of the other superstars be content with being role players?

Corner 3 in FIBA is like 21 and a few inches I think. Theory still holds weight :blessed:

USA actually looked good in the first quarter. They're making some great defensive plays and hitting enough shots to stay ahead comfortably. Only issue to this point is missing some makeable jumpers (midrange and 3pt both) and a bit of foul trouble.

Up 22-13 with the ball. Interesting to see how it will fall apart from here.

Edit: 34-25 halfway through the 2nd quarter. They actually looked fine at this point but lack of bigs is definitely an issue.

I'm kinda waiting for the hard right conservatives to point out the nba players that are NOT on the team

Or declined

Hate America and are ungrateful

It's coming and would be perfect to use to get some red meat to the maga crowds

:francis:

That Clay Travis MAGA crowd has always rooted against the USA basketball team. Folks did everything but throw a parade in 2004
