Only genuine surprise is Pawel Pawlikowski picking up a Best Director nod and the movie getting a Cinematography nod too. Everything else follows the predictable pattern of choosing safe conservatism over risk.

She didn't just explore. She did hard drugs and almost killed herself. She lived a very destructive lifestyle and had a fall back plan with Forrest.

But that gets into the conversation of gender politics in a film etc etc which is, at least my issue with it. When guys have done that in films we normally get away Scott free. Unless it’s sid and Nancy

Also, you guys are so obsessed with Black Panther you don't even realize how bad they snubbed If Beale Street Could Talk. It's a better film than half that list of Best Picture nominees and folks should be outraged about it instead of cheering the forced inclusion of a run-of-the-mill blockbuster movie.

I’m confused who you’re mad at here :russ:

Help me out. Are you mad at black panther for getting nods or mad at the nods it got? Cause you cursed out white people (even tho there are plenty of minorities in the academy now) but then cursed out Disney. I’m confused

the academy is a cracca society is what i meant by ''them craccas'' and its OBV, beyond OBV the disney regime had damn near all their films in the oscar nominations so yeah something fishy going on.

my gripe isnt BP being nominated but the fact that its getting best picture nod when its not even top 10 best picture of the year..

make up and costume was out of this world, so was the soundtrack.. its an obvious popularity contest at this point and a reason why organisations like film awards or rotten tomatoes are highly skewed, knowing that i shouldn't even be upset, but it is what it is..

Bohemian Rhapsody being nominated for Best Picture is interesting. Critics did not like it very much at all. I read that it was actually "Rotten" for a while on RT and then crept over 60% more recently.

Something is going on here. It won Best Picture for comedy/musical at the Globes. People in that thread said it was ridiculous and had no shot of being nominated at the Oscars but here we are.

I've heard Malek was great. I have not seen the movie. All I know is someone is lying :mjpls:

thought i was the only one who noticed the BIG change in tune for this film, came out of the gate rotten and all of a sudden these flaky fucc ass critics been singing a different tune lately... funny :mjpls:

It’s not a top 10 flick for you but it is for a lot of other people breh. Awards aren’t just about our own opinions. If it were up to me, a few horror flicks would be on there but they’re not so here we are. But if we’re just going by consensus, you’d be hard pressed to find a list with black panther not on it

No I’m thinking of extremely loud and incredibly close. The 9/11 movie with Tom Hanks.

I loved Benjamin button so I’ll never shyt on that. But yeah had my years mixed up. But that was the 2011 flick that was shytted on by critics and got nominated for best picture.

My b, wrong years
People were upset that Extremely Close... got a Best Picture nom while movies like Shame, J Edgar, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Young Adult, Beginners, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo were all snubbed.

Those noms underline just how bad 2018 was/is moviewise. Yeah, The Oscars aren't end all be all when it comes to movies but still. So far I've haven't seen a single movie I'd give above 8 out of 10.
You say that every year while being comically behind in seeing anything
