Possibly. Tough debate:yeshrug:
I do think its an interesting debate on what plagirism really constitutes.

A lot of shows and movies wear their influence on their sleeve. Whats the line between influence and stealing really.

Thats why Im not going to damn pizolatto, because if you do well you can say that about hundreds of writers and directors.

and Breaking Bad has pretty much changed how people watch TV series these days...
And by change how people watch you mean ignoring the show for 90% of it's existence and then binge watching 4 and half seasons a week before the series finale so they could talk about it with people on Twitter and be in the "in" crowd. Yeah breh, totally agree. :mjlol:

Lol not quite that extreme but the show was never popular until season four.

I still think the first two seasons are pretty mediocre.

Yeah, that's exactly how the writers of "Game Of Thrones" watched it too:

Do you ever binge-watch anything?

Benioff:
I watched the first four and a half seasons of Breaking Bad in two intense, half-marathon bursts. What Vince Gilligan and his team have created with that show is nothing short of American art. I don't have enough superlatives to throw his way. When I met Vince, I was hoping he'd be a douche bag so I could hate him with a clear conscience, but the sad truth is that he's the nicest guy in the world.

So yes, this is a good example of how "BB" changed how people watch TV. It's the most binge watched show in the era of binge watching. It was the #2 most bootlegged show in 2013, only behind "GOT", which is on pay cable. It's the #1 most watched show on Netflix, too:

Before the advent of the internet, DVRs, Netflix, etc. you couldn't watch a heavily serialized drama when you wanted to. "BB" is at the forefront of that movement, regardless of how you feel about it.

Netflix changed the way people watch TV...Breaking Bad was just a beneficiary of the change Netflix brought to the landscape.

And even before netflix, the hugely increased home market brought about by dvd and then blu ray.

Netflix was a natural extension of that. I used to skip watching shows live and just buy the box set so i could binge watch full seasons. Family guy famously was brought back because of dvd sales.

Like you said breaking bad owes the shows popularity to technological advances.

Bb is probably the most a show has ever benefited by the change. But giving the show itself credit for the change is laughable fan boyism.

I will concede this as well.

It was mutually beneficial. There is several articles around the 'net citing increased Netflix accounts due to their exclusivity deal with "BB". For example in the UK Netflix subscriptions doubled in the time frame "BB" was announced to stream exclusively after new eps of the show aired. To act like this is totally unrelated to "BB", which was arguably the biggest show on the planet from a pop culture perspective around that time, is insane.

This is also why Netflix tried to outright buy "Better Call Saul" when AMC almost passed. It's not a coincidence.

Complacency, Emmys are notorious for rewarding some of the same shows over and over again. Plus I read that Modern Family has a huge cast that work on the show from writers, producers, directors, grips, etc, they employ a lot of people or people related to those who make up the Emmy voting block.

And for the record it's still fukk the Emmys for their "The Wire" snub, and a few other things. It was fun watching it live for a change though.
