Mostly superior quality and consistency. With the beats rhymes and concepts. Has to be some impact - otherwise I'll call the record a personal classic.

Classics from 1998
IDAHIH
Capital Punishment
Moment Of Truth
Mos and Kweli

That's just off the top. I could be forgetting others.

all these albums have somewhat of a similar sound.

"flesh of my flesh" doesn't fit the mold.:shaq2:

So you think Flesh of my Flesh is better produced than Moment of Truth?

I honestly don't remember much from "moment of truth".

the fact that it didn't stick with me pretty much says all that needs to be said.

I actually got it mixed up with their following album in a recent thread.

You're sleeping. Do yourself a favor and revisit that album. Wall to wall bangers.

I luv boom-bap.

I just don't think that everything has to be boom-bap.

that's the difference.

royalty is one of my favorite songs AND beats of '98 actually.

Aquemini should have been on my list.

I didn't opt out of anything.

I heard the moment of truth album back then. it just didn't stick with me like that. I didn't say anything bad about it. just nothing about it struck me as classic aside from maybe a few cuts.

@mobbinfms
aquemini is like 3 1/2 mics.

So I take it you think Flesh is better than Aquemini as well? I can see an argument that Aquemini ain't classic - but it's 4.5 at a minimum.

At this point I need you to list the classic tracks off Flesh. I must be missing something.

Realistically:

MOT
You Know My Steez
Work
Royalty
Above The Clouds
The Militia
Make Em Pay
Betrayal

Black Star
Definition
Redefinition
Brown Skin Lady
KOS
Respiration
Thieves In The Night

:pachaha: so these forgotten songs that people never bump, had little impact when they dropped are classics and you have to ask such a question about flesh of my flesh :dahell: ok,they might be classics in your bedroom,on your stoop, hallway etc but thats it
