1947 NEGRO DOLL RACE CHILD PSYCHOLOGY EXPERIMENT PHOTO
This photograph shows a child participant in Dr. Kenneth B. Clark's 1947 "doll" test; an experiment in which children were given a choice of black dolls and white dolls. The majority of Black children chose to play with white dolls and identified the Black dolls as "bad." Clark's testimony in Brown v. Topeka Board of Education was pivotal in the Supreme Court's determination that segregation was damaging to the hearts and minds of Black children.
