I'm familiar with the story, I just assumed it would be Hollywood-ized, right in time for Oscar season...

Like I said earlier in the thread, that's a valid concern. Any movie about slavery, no matter how bad, is going to get nominated, though... that's just how white liberals are. So far, though, I don't see any real evidence for worry.

My mom loves this book and if it's a true to the autobiography I wouldn't be surprised if it's the best flick of 2013

Damn I saw Hunger and Shame and thought those were great films. Shocked that they were made by a black director though.

I don't get how you could've seen anything by McQueen and still question his resolve. A man who films a three minute scene of a guy mopping a hallway full of piss, or shows a sex addict so desperate to get his nut off that he engages in gay sex, is not going to turn in some corny feel-good melodrama about one of the harshest periods in American history.

This movie has been reviewed so far as being the most brutal and unflinching look at the violence of slavery made to date. Where do you see evidence of dilution? Also don't forget the story is taken right out of an actual autobiography.
I guess im just tired of watching fukking slave films and racist cacs in regards to every historical piece about black people.
