Devin Haney Comes In Heavier For 140-Pound Debut Than Defending Champ Regis Prograis

SAN FRANCISCO – Devin Haney weighed more than Regis Prograis when they stepped on the California State Athletic Commission’s scale Friday.
Haney came in at exactly 140 pounds for his debut at the junior welterweight limit during their official weigh-in Friday morning at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis. Prograis was one pound lighter, 139, for one of his two highest-profile title defenses within the division he has competed almost exclusively since he made his pro debut 11½ years ago.
Their weights were revealed publicly during a staged ceremonial weigh-in Friday afternoon at Chase Center, the home arena for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. Prograis and Haney engaged in a prolonged faceoff and talked trash to each other one last time before they left the stage.
Haney (30-0, 15 KOs), the former undisputed lightweight champion, moved up five pounds to challenge Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs) because it had become too physically taxing to squeeze his 5-foot-9 frame down to the lightweight limit of 135 pounds. They’ll fight for the WBC super lightweight title that Prograis, also a former WBA champ, won by knocking out Jose Zepeda in the 11th round of their November 2022 bout at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
The 25-year-old Haney will attempt to become a world champion in a second weight class against a powerful southpaw who is perhaps the most formidable champion in the 140-pound division. The Henderson, Nevada resident is listed by most sportsbooks as a 4-1 favorite, despite the 34-year-old Prograis’ power, accomplishments and experience at the weight at which they’ll box.
Their 12-round title fight will headline a four-fight DAZN Pay-Per-View show. The official weights for the six-fight Prograis-Haney undercard are listed below.

Haney can skate to a decision but how would that look when everyone was clowning Shakur for running.

Kinda regret not covering this Haney-Prograis fight........All my boxing coverage is basically a labor of love. They don't care whether I cover it or not and I've been busy with NBA and NFL but I love the way Haney is moving right now and this build up has me hype for tomorrow.

The only path to victory for Prograis to me is if Haney engages and wants to trade with him. Prograis being the bigger puncher with elite counterpunching skills has the opportunity to catch Haney with something
Outside of that Haney can outbox into a decision. Prograis is tough but he just does not have the footspeed. Not gonna lie, I can see Haney dropping Prograis because Prograis has a tendency to over reach when he throws his power punches
It's been a minute since I made a bet but I'm leaning towards Prograis on some Big Bro shyt. If it goes to decision like it probably will then it's definitely Devin but I just don't think his power (or lackthereof) is gonna be respected. This is 140. This is Rougarou. If Regis keeps that in mind he can save himself from the judges. Doing my homework right now from previous fights, Devin was sharp as hell starting off with Jorge Linares
