these dudes is clowns

this is Kobe Bryant we are talking about

he'll be back at full strength and will show people that the Lakers got him on a discount

Kobe of last year is worth this money and I'm confident he'll be back at that level by all-star break this year
That's not the point though. They could get that version of Kobe back. They should've gotten him for MUCH less than that. It's on the Lakers for paying him WAY too much.

This dude is killin it right now.

That's the only thing that makes sense right now. If they were gettin word that Melo and LeBron weren't comin, and they didn't like the look of anyone else long term this summer or next. So they gave Kobe whatever he asked for so he didn't get to FA, and they are setting their sights on 2016.

If they thought they were gettin another max guy, this move makes no sense because they would fit him just under the cap and then have to fill the rest of the roster on basically minimum deals.

My brother's keeper
a players job is not to worry about "not crippling a franchise" - general managers get paid millions of dollars to do that

what's the point in paying a g.m if players will take less than market value, essentially doing the g.m's job for him

Props to the strong black brother that is kobe bryant for taking a stand

"Lakers owners hate me for raising the status quo up
Im overcharging ******** for what they did to the cold crush"

That's why Riley > Kupchack...sometimes you gotta put your foot down, but dude ain't got the balls to talk to Bean. There's no amount of GMing that builds a team around Kobe earning that much at his age with no assets, no picks and no cap. And I'm on a players side 99% of the time. This ONLY makes sense if they came together, decided, fukk competing, and lets make this a glorified farewell tour.

I bought a Carbon 15 when I was 18
even id it is 24mil. that leaves the LAKERS with 26million in cap space over the summer

meanwhile wade/bosh/bron/ will all have to take paycuts to even be able to all be re-signed :

are you fukking illiterate? how do you quote me and still get it wrong?

i said "he wouldn't have gotten the respect he deserves". the "'nt" is another way of saying not

please review the english textbook you had back in 3rd grade so we can have a fluid conversation.

yes lebron was thinking about himself and what his legacy would look like if he didn't win a ring. that's why he took a paycut so miami could add as much talent as possible. you a fool if you cant see that :snoop:
When you say that you make it seem like he's selfish which is the far from the truth. Of course you care about yourself as a player but that doesn't mean you ONLY care about yourself.

given the nba salary cap is 58.5 million and luxury tax is 71 million.. meaning the lakers will have 35 million dollars to get 2 good players to play wit kobe and a bunch of bodies which the team have now to go along with him. luxury tax isn't a problem. lakers is a team that wants to win in the next 2 years for kobe and who ever else join him and then after that start rebuilding with probably melo or who ever else young great player..

it's the lakers not a flash in a pan franchise like the miami marlins or miami heat...

Actually it is. You can't go over the salary cap to sign NEW guys. Luxury tax only comes into play for re-signing guys you already have. It's one thing when you already have a championship caliber squad on deck and all you have to do is just re-sign everybody like a few years ago. It's a totally different ballgame when you have to outright sign new guys with only half of the cap to work with.

i agree

i love kobe and it's no way in hell i pay him that much. i'd make him go get offers from other teams and i'll outbid any of his suitors by 1-2 mil. But i'm for sure gonna make him prove someone is willing to give him that kind of money.

he went to miami to achieve his goals, that's selfish...nothing wrong with that

but yes i agree he does care about others

What super team? .

The Heat that are currently dominating the league, obviously

And so by your logic Bron Melo and Dwight taking pay cuts aren't a big deal. And I'll take someone taking less money for better teammates than more money to feed an ego any day

I'm not sure what you're trying to say...my point is that Kobe as an all-time great in the twilight of his career, and the Lakers as one of the most successful teams in pro sports (far as legacy and prestige...and $ wise, as evidenced by sh!t like the billion-plus dollar tv deal they signed not long ago...basically cashing out on their popularity from the Kobe-Era) are in a different situation than a young superstar just entering their prime looking to join a team and with them to validate a "legacy"...if the Lakers don't win a championship with Kobe in the next 2 years, after already winning 5 and going to 7, it ain't the end of the world...one of the all time greats would have wrapped up 20 years all in a laker jersey, possibly threatening the the all-time scoring record on top of the 5 chips already there...and rebuild from there in '16
