Akans came from the sahel. We weren’t an offshoot of the mande though, just lived under their empire. We migrated south to avoid converting to Islam when the almoravids invaded the Ghana Empire. That’s actually why we were named Ghana (even though all Ghanaians aren’t Akan) lol

Shyt is crazy tho because if you read some of the accounts on ancient Ghana, there are parallels between it and Akan culture.

Its not Akan, its a very smaller Tribe. Cause I was watching something on Mendes from Salone. And some breh from post a comment how a group in Ghana speaks a similar Language and their elders say their ancestors came from Mali in the 17th Century.

Interesting. I’d like to know more about west African tribes would you recommend any resources? My husband swear he is Yoruba (he’s Cuban). :mjlol:

He might be right.

Congo/Angola contributed the most slaves in the slave trade. A country that shall not be named produced the second most slaves in the slave trade and the Yoruba were either the hardest hit or second hardest hit group from the country which shall not be named. A lot of Yoruba were taken to Cuba, Brazil and the USA. Most of the positive results on AncestryDNA and 23andme for the Country that shall not be named is from samples submitted by Yoruba people. They had some tremendous empires if people are interested in learning about them.

I always advise people to ease into research on Africa, because there is a lot to it. I suggest starting with Basil Davidson, because he is easy to read and he gives a very good overview of the Continent of Africa and who the people were pre-colonialism, which is when there were African Kingdoms. He then eases you into slavery and then into colonialism before there were any actual modern countries partitioned by the Europeans.

Then this book is a good introduction to the slave trade:

I read those books decades ago and his research was pretty good.

Good looks. And a lot of Cubans claim to speak Yoruba especially those who practice Lucumi.

:mjlol: Come on breh, u really think those studies are referencing black people when they say North Africans?

Lol they’re are referring to modern Berbers when they say North African breh.

I do agree black people have always been in North Africa but so have berbers breh. And I honestly don’t think berbers were ever black like that. The ancient egyptian depiction of them don’t look much different from how they look now :yeshrug:
Then the Moors were never Black either because they were mainly Black Berbers...... And the Ancient Egyptians had depictions of Black Libyans too...

The theories on Fula origins are so wild. One Igbo breh calls em Aliens:mjlol:, some people say they from Bangladesh, some say they the original North Africans.

Some they Wolof/Serrer mixed with Non Africans. Others say they come from Ethiopians other East Africans.
They clearly a western Sahelian/Saharan people like most Niger-Congo people. They just migrated down to West Africa later compared to other West Africans.

I saw something yesterday, that said that is small Tribe in Ghana that is off Mande origin.

Are you talking about the Bissa/Busansi who are in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo/Benin?

@The Chief aren't you Berber maternally? I could swear that y'all were Black around Mali and in Mauritania.

Here are a group of Berber people called Tuareg. They look Black to me:

Fulani are mainly black African, with a minor Eurasian component transmitted through a Maghrebi population such as the Tuareg.

95% west african / 5% north african. Damn near pure black. Also part mande. Results at 13:08.

She is fine as hell tho for real :ohlawd:

This for you nikkas who thought west africans was only supposed to look one way :mjpls:

She is pretty but you are overrating her and yes Wet African features vary but dudes be going extra hard to find light skinned Africans to attempt to claim that we vary in shade. Most Africans aren’t light skinned or super dark skinned but in varying shades of brown.

Although people like op exist they aren’t a majority.
