Interesting. I’d like to know more about west African tribes would you recommend any resources? My husband swear he is Yoruba (he’s Cuban). :mjlol:

Mane/Mande groups

Serer people of Senegal/Mali/Southern Mauritania

Balanta people mainly from Guinea Bissau.

I'm biased but that Wolof, Mali, Wagadu, Fouta, Sonnike Kingdoms region fascinates me the most. And to me not enough attention is focused on the history and culture off upper West Africa.

Liberia to Southern Mauritania, Mali

Due to Fulani being nomadic, they have assimilated DNA from other surrounded groups, so some of them do have North African DNA, but many don’t.
Actually all of them have ancient Black North African DNA because them like most Niger-Congo groups were originally from the Green Sahara. They were still Black and so it doesnt contradict the basis of your thread.

What? Upper West African history especially Mali and Timbuktu gets WAAAAAAAY more attention from historians especially Black ones than lower West African history.

Guinea Fulani, Fulanis on our side(Sierra Leone to Senegal) are different.

I know that in Ghana you have the ones who are sedentary and have been there since before independence. They are assimilated. The second lady of Ghana is Fulani.

The issue are the herdsmen who cause the confusion between the Ghanaian Fulanis and the nomadic herdsman. So it’s led to all fulanis being treated like herdsman smh.

Those studies you were referencing say they’re mixed with the modern non-black berbers, not ancient black ones lol.

Like I said, some are, some aren’t.

And what studies were those? @Mhofu can even elaborate. All they mention is that Fulanis have indignous North African admixture i.e indignous Black. They NEVER mentioned anything about modern Berbers. And its common knowledge that the Fulanis came from the Sahara/Sahel and then migrated down.

Only nikkas who don’t know west African history don’t credit upper west Africa.

Upper west Africa set the cultural fabric of west African culture in general. The expansion of the Mali empire standardised a lot of the culture in west Africa.

Things like clothing, food was spread via long distance Hausa, Mande traders.

I’m Akan and our per colonial culture was more in line with upper west Africans. The Mande were our trading partners Since bono state. They introduced different mining techniques to us. Even some of our instruments like the seperewa is brought over by Mande.

I got love for Mandes and upper west Africans in general :salute:

:mjlol: Come on breh, u really think those studies are referencing black people when they say North Africans?

Lol they’re are referring to modern Berbers when they say North African breh.

I do agree black people have always been in North Africa but so have berbers breh. And I honestly don’t think berbers were ever black like that. The ancient egyptian depiction of them don’t look much different from how they look now :yeshrug:

The theories on Fula origins are so wild. One Igbo breh calls em Aliens:mjlol:, some people say they from Bangladesh, some say they the original North Africans.

Some they Wolof/Serrer mixed with Non Africans. Others say they come from Ethiopians other East Africans.

I saw something yesterday, that said that is small Tribe in Ghana that is off Mande origin.

Akans came from the sahel. We weren’t an offshoot of the mande though, just lived under their empire. We migrated south to avoid converting to Islam when the almoravids invaded the Ghana Empire. That’s actually why we were named Ghana (even though all Ghanaians aren’t Akan) lol

Shyt is crazy tho because if you read some of the accounts on ancient Ghana, there are parallels between it and Akan culture.
