I could be wrong but my take is that Alonzo wasn't planning to use Jake as a scapegoat for killing Rodger. He already had permission to get Rodger from the 'higher-ups' that were eating at the steakhouse as long as they got their fee/cut which they did cause Zo paid them with the money he stole from Macy Grey's character. Rodger was a big time drug dude, Alonzo really didn't need a fall guy, especially a fellow detective in which Hoyt was, to put the blame on. It would've been simply a drug bust that ended in a shootout. Bad guy dead- another drug dealer is off the street, all the cops involved are heroes. But things switched and went sour when Alonzo found out that Hoyt didn't want the his share of the cut and that he truly was a good cop out to get bad guys off the street. They probably hadn't seen that type of individual in a while:ohhh: Hoyt freaked out at what they did and Alonzo and his crew had to calm him down.. Zo's crew wanted to merk Hoyt on the spot but Zo said hold up let me talk to dude.. that's where he put in motion that he shot Rodger and if he snitched to internal affairs then the blood would be on his hands.

That's the reason Alonzo kept askin' Hoyt was he a "wolf" and not a sheep throughout the entire movie. But he found out he wasn't a wolf after all and saw that he was still shook up about what they did and got the esses to take him out. I thought that whole pcp and beer drinking was just the initiation process to see if he was bout it. Remember Zo and his boys had special tattoos. He told Hoyt if he played the game he could get his ink too. They were a gang for real. They thought they had a new recruit but Hoyt was on that 'good cop' sh*t for reals

Yeah, I gotta watch that again. I'm missing out on all the details.

I gotta watch it again too. but I do remember after they shot Rodger Alonzo grabbed the shotgun and staged a fake shootout by shooting a shot through the front door and then grazing one of his buddies with a flesh wound to make seem like Rodger went out guns a blazing on his crew which was all a sham. Hoyt was supposed to be down with all that but he wasn't that's when sh*t turned.. everything else from earlier was simply initiation-rookie hazing

Anyone who spent enough time getting dirt on their hands in the streets, gets that joke, lol but I didn't get at 16 either. Smiles and cries too.

The PCP and beer was insurance policy, and the whole thing was initiation for Hoyt, but he was expendable, and Alonzo could have dropped him at anytime, which he did….no one trusts someone who doesn't have blood on their hands, so he thought they would become loyal to each other over the money and Roger thing, when Alonzo realized Hoyt was soft, was when he wouldn't take the money…but Alonzo character was such portrayed to leave it open that he was going to kill him, no matter what, because thats the kind of person he was.

Snail is crime....you think you get rid of it and you're making a difference, but it comes right back on your doorstep just as strong as ever. The frustrated home owner is law enforcement. Crime/criminals are resilient and brazen (snail boldly returns back to the porch to taunt the owner, when he could have gone elsewhere; snail should have been done away with but survives)

Now i gotta pop it in again...cuz im trying to remember if jake did or said anything after alonzos crew killed ol boy for the money:patrice:....cuz im sitting here thinkin, did alonzo want to really keep jake on board?i remember him giving a speech to dr dre and them saying jake was his guy.

But was he basically in agreeance with them at that moment that jake needed to die too?and he only didnt do it bcuz there wasnt enuff time ?or it was too risky that jake might shoot him first.

Just wondering at what moment he actually decided it was a wrap for Jake...if he was deciding jake needed to die at the same time he was telling his own crew jake was his guy and was gonna live....cold shyt:myman:

it was at the moment when jake didn't kill home dude as instructed then took the shotty and had it pointed at alonzos dome. alonzo was saying anything to get out of that situation. IT was all lies to get jake to put the gun down.

yeah exactly my take,I do believe Alonzo did plan to recruit Hoyt and take him up under his wing....the scene with Rodger was his initiation....the PCP he made him smoke was just plan B to threaten Hoyt and make him get on board maybe....but then after this scene I think Alonzo knew

Jake couldn't be bought:wow:...said he would go back to cutting parking tickets and fukk a career...Denzel tried to offer him cash and he says fukk the cash:wow:....Denzel tries to use peer pressure and tells him "the guys would feel better and like your part of the team" and Jake says fukk they feelings:wow:

A man who cares about doing whats right regardless of his career, money and doesn't care about being the lonewolf or outcast is a danger to what they do.

Even lowkey Alonzo was actually playing the game, even though his character was over the top in the movie the way he handled Roger is real life standard procedure......they let drug dealers run wild and even give them assistance in staying free til the higher up make the call to pull the trigger...Jake thinking ROdger was alonzos "friend" tells you right there Jake wouldn't have been able to handle the job and its not at all like he thought it was and how its publicized in the movies where the cops are the clearcut "good guys"
