Now i gotta pop it in again...cuz im trying to remember if jake did or said anything after alonzos crew killed ol boy for the money:patrice:....cuz im sitting here thinkin, did alonzo want to really keep jake on board?i remember him giving a speech to dr dre and them saying jake was his guy.

But was he basically in agreeance with them at that moment that jake needed to die too?and he only didnt do it bcuz there wasnt enuff time ?or it was too risky that jake might shoot him first.

Just wondering at what moment he actually decided it was a wrap for Jake...if he was deciding jake needed to die at the same time he was telling his own crew jake was his guy and was gonna live....cold shyt:myman:
Alonzo's crew told him not to involve Jake but Zo thought Jake was his :myman: but after they merked Raj Jake had that :ufdup:look so Zo had to calm him down and figure a way how to erase him. That's where Esses became involved. Perfect solution.

Jake saving the homies little sister from being raped was crazy though. Kinda far fetched when you think about it but it worked so perfectly for that scene and the movie:ohlawd:

Having Paul Walker or Freddie Prinze would've turned that shyt into a comedy. They're barely actors.

Ryan Phillipe doesn't fit the tone for me though.

Tobey Maguire would've definitely been an interesting choice and no doubt a career defining moment had he done the role and the movie justice. Most people only know him as spider-man now though which is kinda sad.

I think Hawke was definitely the right choice.

Nah. Ryan Phillipe could've worked. The movie is great regardless but, he could've worked too. He played a cop in "Crash". He did a few other gritty movies that were similar in tone. I could easily see him as Jake.

I always thought it was a setup from the get go, him having him smoke the pcp and drinking knowing all of that would show up in his blood stream.

That was a set up from the get go.

Zo's crew thought they were all gonna split that money, but Zo used them and Jake so he could take all the loot to pay the Russians.

I loved this movie.
I didn't understand anything Macy Gray's character said though.

I thought it was just sort of like an initiation rite to see if Jake was down for the team. Ayers wrote it based on the corrupt Rampart Division of the LAPD where those guys were pretty much a wild out of control street gang themselves. Alonzo could've easily dropped Jake off somewhere and did the 'Rodger heist" with his crew without dude even being around. Maybe I'm mistaken, but didn't Alonzo tell his crew that most of the money was going to his superiors-higher ups? Did they even know about the Russian situation?

From what I remember, Alonzo used his crew to get the money, and was gonna use Jake and blame him for shooting that dude. All so he can keep the money to pay off the Russians.

It's been a while since I saw this so I may be wrong.

I could be wrong but my take is that Alonzo wasn't planning to use Jake as a scapegoat for killing Rodger. He already had permission to get Rodger from the 'higher-ups' that were eating at the steakhouse as long as they got their fee/cut which they did cause Zo paid them with the money he stole from Macy Grey's character. Rodger was a big time drug dude, Alonzo really didn't need a fall guy, especially a fellow detective in which Hoyt was, to put the blame on. It would've been simply a drug bust that ended in a shootout. Bad guy dead- another drug dealer is off the street, all the cops involved are heroes. But things switched and went sour when Alonzo found out that Hoyt didn't want the his share of the cut and that he truly was a good cop out to get bad guys off the street. They probably hadn't seen that type of individual in a while:ohhh: Hoyt freaked out at what they did and Alonzo and his crew had to calm him down.. Zo's crew wanted to merk Hoyt on the spot but Zo said hold up let me talk to dude.. that's where he put in motion that he shot Rodger and if he snitched to internal affairs then the blood would be on his hands.

That's the reason Alonzo kept askin' Hoyt was he a "wolf" and not a sheep throughout the entire movie. But he found out he wasn't a wolf after all and saw that he was still shook up about what they did and got the esses to take him out. I thought that whole pcp and beer drinking was just the initiation process to see if he was bout it. Remember Zo and his boys had special tattoos. He told Hoyt if he played the game he could get his ink too. They were a gang for real. They thought they had a new recruit but Hoyt was on that 'good cop' sh*t for reals
