When I lived in the USA, being African was the worst thing I could possibly be. Since the negative portrayal of Africa in the media made certain people of colour lack pride in their African heritage and all non caucasains wanted to distance themselves from all the negative things that they felt the African continent represented as much as possible. Where did that leave me? As an African woman – it was not easy asserting my self-love amidst the ingrained self-hatred bred by the society – but I’m proud to say that my self-esteem is still very much intact.

What kind of arrogant delusional nonsense is that? In many categories, the US has a pretty low rating for a developed country. Quality of healthcare, life expectancy, social mobility, education, etc.

I often feel like these are BS stats.

Life expectancy? Ehhh.

Social mobility? Ehhh..

I'll grant you the education thing...but the US has some the best universities in the world.

AND I hate the comparison to countries that are a fraction of the size or population.

Its done quite a bit actually.

I know people hate to admit it, but when it comes to ensuring safety abroad of citizens say in times of war, or conflict the US Military puts in work to help protect its citizens.

Even further, when we look at the access US companies have to resources abroad that end up on your dinner table or on your back, a lot of that is secured through trade which is protected by US forces ultimately.

The world is an intricate clock that works in the US's favor.

Social mobility? Ehhh..

For a country that prides itself on being about the land of opportunity, the fact that the US has such a shytty rating in social mobility and also high rates of poverty are noteworthy.
