1. Open white racism against Black people is still tolerated within certain communities in this country

2. The "Great Replacement" theory of White Genocide is being promoted by Republicans right now

3. Mental illness is real and mostly untreated

4. Libertarian numbnuts think you should be able to push absolutely anything on the internet with no consequences

5. Gun access is ridiculous and it's easier to get a powerful gun here than anywhere else in the world



THOSE are the five most obvious reasons this shyt happened. And the people who are calling for something to be done don't want to address any of those five. I'd love to hear their solutions that don't somehow involve restricting internet speech, cracking down hard on right-wing racist narratives, treating mental illness, or reducing gun access.

Dude, it's the reality. Congress, in particular the US Senate is fukking broken. It's been broken for years.

They voted against universal background checks, they've voted against raising the federal minimum wage which would have helped millions of lower class people, they've voted against serious criminal justice & police reform, they've voted against immigration reform. The only reason the First Step Criminal Justice Reform Act passed was because Trump was President and Republicans wanted to give him a political victory. Dems weren't going to vote against something they've been wanting for years so it received bi-partisan support in the Senate. Those same Senate Republicans 3 years earlier refused to support a better Criminal Justice bill because as the New York Times reported, they didn't want to give President Obama a victory.

It's why Presidents have to always resort to Executive Orders, which don't go as far as Congressional laws would go, tend to get challenged and sometimes overturned by the courts, and can easily be overturned by the next President.

The whole system is too fukking broken for it to do what you want it to do. Too many special interests. Too much bad faith negotiations, too much wanting to harm the other side, too much being worried about upsetting their voters if they make an unpopular vote on a bill and wanting to win the next election at all costs. It's bullshyt.

Asian “hate” apparently went up due to COVID, financial relief was provided immediately. Black people have been the victims of CACs terrorist for centuries: “well there needs to be more studies before anything in written in black and white.”

How much "financial relief" was provided to stop anti-asian hate? Be specific and link a real source because I've heard this claim pushed a TON around here but I've never once seen anyone put a number on it or link to these "tangibles" being distributed. The only anti-asian hate bill I saw was a completely toothless hand wave without any attached finances that did nothing more than the government is already doing for anti-black hate crimes.



Just last month Black and White democrats in Maryland forced through a bill to create civil actions for hate crimes to mirror the criminal penalties, so hate crime victims can get money in addition to justice. Republicans, of course, opposed the bill and called it "cancel culture", but there are enough Democrats in Maryland to override Republican objections:

Wednesday’s vote now sends both the Senate and House versions of the bill to the Senate. That chamber can either concur with amendments made to the bill it passed in February or work out differences in a conference committee before the final gavel closes out the session on Monday night.

Hate crimes attach to criminal acts such as assault, harassment, destruction of property, arson and murder when the crime is motivated because a person is homeless, or because if an individual’s race, color, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity, disability or national origin.

The bills passed by the House provide civil remedies for those acts.
