Vogue is a white magazine for white people. DA fukk did yall expect? This is why black businesses are so important. We need to keep pushing that. Blacks need to start running these companies now. Let us tell our own story and shape our own image

I can see why black women are feeling some type of way about this. Can you imagine living in a world where everything black culture related is represented by a bi racial black male? Everything you see in the media that represents black males is actually half white?

I think they do have a right to be outrage by it.

Black women are fickle when it comes to hair. It's sad sometimes. So much so that people are paying hundreds of dollars for clip in natural weaves. :francis: Swedish women were not up in arms screaming appropriation when Beyonce was on a Loreal/Claroil dye colour box with flowing blonde hair. Black people were upset that she was airbrushed lighter even though she is a light brown woman with documented Creole ancestry.

At the beginning of mean streets
I only ask because it seems like the people who always get upset and defensive when people say "wash and gos don't work on 4c hair" are people who don't have it. Like they are almost too defensive or sensitive, meanwhile it is what it is. I could let my hair shrink up or go to bed without twisting or putting my hair up, but it's not good for my hair. I can't do everything other textures can. My hair will matt and tangle up. It needs to be stretched and bound in twists or braids or threading.
I agree that's why I don't like to intrude in these convos and tell black women with not as acceptable textures what to do. Unfortunately, I benefit from having certain features and I won't pretend to act like I understand what yall deal with with yall hair texture.

Do Fijians wear Senegalese twists? People keep reaching. The point Black Twitter is making still stands

But most people in Detroit and East Baltimore have never been to Senegal. And their grandmas more than likely had a perm or wore wigs. Yes, Fijians, like most people of color braid.

Please expand? Do you mean lets marginalize ourselves based on European history and faux categorization? Or let DNA and archaeological evidence dictate otherwise.

"b-b-but shes black too."

You have a mixed model who looks straight up white modeling black hair styles. If she was in an afro sheen ad, people would be calling bullshyt.
And the fact that her shirt says "you can't swim with us" after the whole Texas pool party is making me feel some type of way.

And just for the men's benefit who think black twitter is overreacting. Im starting to see more and more mixed, white, or hispanic women modeling black hair styles or 'representing a black model" in hair ads. Thats the issue! The Kardashians wear braids and they are praised and looked at as hipster, but they just had the big controversy of making fun of Zendaya wearing dreadlocks saying she looks like she "smells like weed and patchouli oil"

I see way too many hair ads targeted towards black women with half black women in them. Christina Milian and Jill Scott don't have the same hair texture. Some black women have looser textured hair but one texture shouldn't be the only one shown.
