Looking back at past WK results and I don't understand why Omega lost. Okada been having multiple title reigns and in big matches. Omega deserved it, especially reading how 2016 was for him.

Is this dude Okada the Triple H of Japan? :dwillhuh:

The booker, Gedo (who is also his literal hypeman) has an immeasurable hard on for Okada and made the decision almost as soon as he took over the booking to bring Okada back from excursion and force him into the role of the ace of the promotion, giving him pretty much the strongest push of anyone ever in NJ. Luckily, he's pretty good, but he's absolutely bullet proof booking wise and will ALWAYS get his win back and beat whoever should beat him 2-3 times before they beat him.

I have no clue what was the story for the first 20-30 minutes of the match. Both were just trading moves and taking turns on top with no much rime or reason. The few times Omega started to work a body part it lead to absolutely nowhere...which is fine, but it's not great storytelling at all.

Gedo and Jado had the book before Okada showed up. Their fixation on him is pretty understandable when you consider Okada was clearly destined to be a star as far back as 2009. It was almost impossible to miss and they bet on him to take the mantle from Tanahashi.

Now, his run is going into year 5. Almost the exact amount of time Tanahashi had as a maineventer before Okada got his first huge push...

Finally got done watching. The last three matches alone were worth getting that NJPW World, Okada vs Omega was incredible both of them brought their A game. I can't put into words how good that match was, just amazing work from both of those guys. Naito vs Tanahashi was very good. Shibata vs Goto was stiff, brutal and just plain violent. Some of those kicks and forearm shots were :scust:. Overall very good card.
Did you see Shibata's match from WK10?

I don't know about no 6 fukkin stars but that main event was god damn instant classic. Fine just as it is. nikkas are really complaining about the top guy of the company going over. Jeez Kenny will probably get another chance. It makes alot more sense to have the belt on Okada if Suzuki is going after it.

Finally got done with this. Not gonna buy into all of the hyperbole surrounding the last 4 matches, but they were damn fine pro wrestling matches regardless. The last few minutes of Takahashi/KUSHIDA were very good (and they left stuff on the table for future matches), Naito/Tanahashi was excellent and cemented Tana's new role as the aged and slightly past his prime legend type, and Okada/Omega was a classic. Certainly not 6 stars or anything ridiculous like that (though people need to understand that Meltzer's given "more than 5 stars" to other matches in the past), but a classic match that outlined Okada's role as the proper ace quite well (he's the one that's targeted by a fresher, more innovative opponent, and has to use his wits, skills and ingenuity rather than his athleticism to get around this crazy fukker).

I was also interested by something that I don't think was noted yet: the fact that they took GREAT pains to protect Omega's finisher. Okada hit about 4 Rainmakers and had one kicked out of before putting Omega down, but Omega didn't hit the One Winged Angel once. So there's a story coming out of the match, and a story thread they can explore in future rematches (if Omega stays around, that is).

I know that a lot of us who have been watching NJPW since Gedo started booking can get bored with it, but they almost always bring the heat in-ring. That happened here in spades, yes, but I also like that there are threads to explore in the future for matches down the road as well. Great stuff overall.
