I do have a few questions, so how does this work now or what is the next event they have? So like the champs now have mandatory matches against everyone the lost too? Also, reading some of yall post.... so Tana even though he won the G1 which I guess is a guaranteed ME spot at next years WK. He can put that on the line or be challenged for that? (which I wonder to myself, why would he even do that).
Also, are there any more tournaments before the year is out or is this it?
My bad about all the questions, just trynna get educated on the world of NJPW

--New Japan does tours every month that build up - or in a lot of cases just fill up the schedule - towards a big show. Last couple of years they've find a formula were they do two important shows instead of one (with a third one that's middle of the pack level) and they split up the title matches on those dates.
The normal thing is for the opener of the tour and the important shows to be televised and have more consequences than the others. With New Japan World, they also tape some of the "house shows" were every once in a while there might be some progression for a feud or angle, though those shows tend to be worked with less intensity as most wrestlers save themselves for the important shyt (were they basically kill themselves
). Next big event is "Destruction", the tour will begin on 9/5 and will end on 9/23 in a big show in Kobe World Hall. The other two "meaningful" dates are 9/15 and 9/17.
The cards and matches for the whole tour will be announced tomorrow or on Wednesday, not sure.
--One of Gedo's staples as a booker has been using the G-1 as a way to generate mini feuds or challenges that serve as a buffer before the big January show in the Tokyo Dome. So yeah, at this point of the year most of the title matches will happen because of the results in the tournament. Before July/August (G-1) they go with basic booking to create title matches.
--They put they MITB on the line because it's an easy match to promote as important and kayfabe wise either the holder thinks he needs to beat the guy he lost to in the tournament to show he's worthy of the title shot, or the other dude basically calls him out because he has a W over his ass. To this date, no one has lost the MITB, which is very recent, it only started in 2012.
--There's one more tournament left for New Japan, the Tag League, which is mostly overlooked and seen as the least interesting of their tourneys.
