any man arguing whether Zoe should have played Nina must be on some feminine shyt

because colorism really only affects women

I don’t remember anybody complaining about Chadwick playing Thurgood or Denzel playing Malcolm

To be fair, the complaint was that she wore blackface and put on a fake nose AND the family told her not to take the role...

Denzel and Chadwick simply just played the roles

well that was the original point ... BW were upset & stated that Zoe wasn’t black enough to play her
in my point is .... what difference does it make if she and ironically both of them married white dudes

It's not a true representation of who she was. Especially since the make up looked ridiculous.

Yeah I just realize in here that her family didn’t want Zoe to play the role
but as I said I still blame whomever in the family sold those rights to the movie company
Zoe shouldn’t be the one taken all the blame for that

Yeah I guess the casting director should hold a huge chunk of the blame

Can you show proof? Because i can get proof of her fighting for latino rights. Just sayin
My dude are you slow? Her fighting for Latino rights has absolutely nothing to do with her race. Latino is not a race. She can be Latino and still be black. Latino is a linguistic group.

This is a quote from her back in 2005.

When I go to the D.R., the press in Santo Domingo always asks, "¿Qué te consideras, dominicana o americana?" (What do you consider yourself, Dominican or American?) I don't understand it, and it's the same people asking the same question. So I say, time and time again, "Yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.") [They go,] "Oh, no, tú eres trigueñita." ("Oh no, you are 'dark skinned'") I'm like, "No! Let's get it straight, yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.")

Well the dude that played JFK looked nothing like him and again I blame Nina Simone’s family who sold the rights to whatever movie company to make the movie
the company should’ve hired a great make up artist and stylist to properly represent Nina that’s their fault not Zoe

Black Americans are black. Africans and the majority of west Indians are black. People born in Cuba Dominican republic and Puerto Rico or deemed Latino or Hispanic. Let them stay that way and go on about their business. They cannot eat off our plate.
There are people in DR, PR and Cuba just as black as any African-American.

These are Afro-Puerto Ricans below. You really trying to tell us these aren't black people? :dead:

Some of the same dudes who are defending Zoe Saldana wearing blackface had the MOST to say about that African chick playing Harriet Tubman :dead:

:what:

apples and oranges
the Nigerian UK bytch possibly has lineage that was complicit to the slave trade which she refused to address
in addition, she is well known for disrespecting Black Americans so why the hell would she want to play one of our heroes

Out of curiosity..
Why was she appropriate for the role:jbhmm:
I understand actors wanting to have the freedom of expression..
To play any character fictional/non..
And I also understand the slippery slope created..
When we only subject certain roles..
Going to certain races, ethnicities, etc..
But it was pretty damn clear..
She had no business playing Nina Simone..
Nina’s estate was against it..
And there are plenty of chocolate women..
That are phenomenal actresses to do the story justice..
All anybody has ever asked..
Especially black American actors..
Is the opportunity to tell our stories..
I’m not knocking anybody from the diaspora..
Not even knocking English actors..
I know how thecoli hates these arguments..
And try to dismiss any real conversations as..
ADOS propaganda and bigotry
But it’s some truth behind why a lot of black American actors..
Are being Heisman out of the way..
When it comes to these certain projects and stories..
I firmly believe..
If this pandemic/George Floyd/Breonna Taylor..
Trifecta didn’t happen..
Mrs. Saldana..
Wouldn’t have batted an eye..
She has been pretty damn defiant in the nature of her interviews...
I’m all for growth and realization..
But I can’t help but to be skeptical..
Of these sentiments in these videos..

Where were all these complaints when black american actors were playing other nationalities :ohhh:

Good point. So you're saying that you're okay with other groups playing us as long as they're respectful?

If you remember, people were going at Africans playing us in general not just the ones that had lineage or disrespected us.

My thing is we gotta call out everybody. And I notice that some people give passes to certain groups. Like they'll be all up in threads criticizing black people (hell, they'll even criticize Black Americans), yet noticeably absent in or on defense in threads like these.

I just don't pick and choose.
