Obviously not true when you have idiots defining Blackness based on her look :heh:

While I don't think she's the only definition of blackness she is definitely a definition of blackness.

I think the crux of your issue is that you don't find her definition to be the best representative and would prefer someone like Zoe.

Wow. Just wow. Do you always pick through a post for something to argue about? Did you disregard everything I posted to point out that its not just Horners? That wasnt the important part or the point. :snoop:

Yes because the premise was so dumb

"They would be considered closer to white, not literally or genetically, but based on the culture in America. "

The whole African continent would if Nina is "true Black" :dead:

Like 1 of 1000

Zoe is 1 of 1000 too

And neither look is "more Black"

Yep, explains it.

You don't find Nina Simone attractive so you want to erase her with a more preferable model, e.g., Zoe Saldana.

Nope plenty of broad faced dark attractive Black women....Nina wasn't :yeshrug:

Nina isn't ever going to be a standard of beauty EVER anywhere on Earth at any point in human history :heh:

100% facts. Black women cant use self hate or colorism as a crutch either because there are literally millions of DARK SKINNED black women with AFRICAN features that are more beautiful than Nina Simone.

Nina Simone was just an average looking woman :manny:

Standard of beauty promotes the very best

I remember @marcuz talking about how we put our least attractive women against other races womens best. Can never keep it 100.

In what? What competition is there? A singing contest?

What the hell does your perceived beauty competition have to do with Nina Simone being beautiful as is... Maybe not to you, but to others?

Everything in past tense :mjlol: Justify and continue to perpetuate ignorance because its the norm :dead:
The past casts it's shadow on the present. It is not seperate from today. The point is not to perpetuate those ideas. We are not calling Nina Simone stupid, savage or ugly. She was a beautiful and intelligent, talented woman.

The point is to correct those ideas. Her "blackness" in the traditional sense, IS BEAUTIFUL. Remember, Africans weren't calling eachother black. Africans are from their tribe/nation first. The white man created this idea of race and the dichotomy of Black/White.

The white man said features opposite of the ideal white beauty were ugly. We are saying no, they are not. How is that perpetuating it?

It's like we are saying DarkGirlsMatter and people in here are saying well what about All Black Girls? This is what every conversation about colorism and featurism turns into.
I understand not everyone fits neatly in a box, but understand there are levels to this shyt. You are looking for stuff to argue about.

You think West African Fulanis who were enslaved to the US got better treatment than say Asante slaves because they can have thin/narrow features? :ohhh:

Y'all are straight trippin' on this board.

Here we are asking for an actress who resembles Nina Simone and the struggles she went through, that she documented in her own work and you guys are now saying well "Nina was ugly anyways so. . ."

So why have Zoe Saldana play her???

Hows does this make sense???

You don't have to find Nina Simone attractive, fine.

Do you like her music? Do you know anything about her story? Do you even care because she's not pretty enough to be heard?

I made the example of Barbara Streisand, and whereas she never raced racism, she's not considered conventionally attractive and have often been told to get a nose job.

Don't you know if hollywood cast Charlize Theron to play her in a movie there would be a similar uproar especially since Barbara refused to get a nose job or change her looks to fit conventional beauty standards.
