Cameron is my favorite director of all time, and he was THE director that got me interested in film as a kid, got me into acting, and for a while made me want to be a filmmaker myself. I've watched T1 through True Lies legit more times than I can begin to count. We had a cat growing up that I named Hicks because of Aliens, and I'd love for my next dog to be Hudson.

That being said I've never loved Avatar. I was blown away by the visual spectacle, but my favorite thing about Cameron's movies were that they all told very good stories and had memorable characters on top of the amazing visuals, set pieces, special effects, etc.

Avatar was just such a generic story to me that I'm never in the mood to go back and watch it. I probably should, just to give it a fair shot after all these years, but in that case I really thought he used a super basic ass story to justify all the new tech, special effects, and pageantry.

I'll always give him a pass for T1, Aliens, Abyss, T2, True Lies, and Titanic...but yeah...I don't really like Avatar and I'm not as excited for Avatar 2 as I wish I was.
Sounds like you might like Piranha 2 better than Avatar :russ:

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
This, visually it's beautiful. But story wise, it's not bad or anything it just doesn't move the needle at all. It's still strange to me this is the highest grossing movie of all time

Think about it.

The movie is about a less advanced group overcoming the oppression of... white people.

White people have a history of oppression around the world. People can relate to that :manny:

nightset
lol.

also to take into account this hits different for the people that have been working on this for over 10 years, so seeing the full product might have made her emotional but I doubt most people will cry watching this.

I'm hyped for this not because of Avatar, but because we haven't had a James Cameron movie in 12 years :wow:

All the GOAT directors have put out at least two to three movies in that span of time

Weren’t people saying the first avatar fell short and was just a gimmicky hi tech movie?
Yeah. IMDB haters had a mega thread saying Avatar was a flop because it was too expensive....it had to double its cost to make even. After it became the highest gross movie of all time, haters were saying the studio was hiding costs. How the marketing alone put them in the red. Then movie became the first blockbuster to hit a billy while in the theaters :mjlol: IMDB was hilarious. They said it was cheating to rerelease it a few months after the initial run and it proved the studio hid film's costs:russ:

I was in high school at the time and my av teacher was pissed at this movie
He was saying things like well there’s not that much money to go around even if it made 1 billion they had to pay everyone to make the movie .:mjlol:
Just asinine statements the whole month until we got off break

I wonder what IMDB would say about Titanic if it were around during that time. Those were the exact same talking points that were used against that movie.
