I did too. Cameron’s films already feel grand as is but that marketing at the time for Avatar was wild and had me crazy hyped.

Rewatched it in my RealD-incapable “home theater” and didn’t find it all that hot on its own. There’s just some films where you had to be there at the time it dropped to understand why it was so hot and this seems like one of them to me.

I understand why some just didn't like it due to the cliche story ferngully/pocahontas/dances w. Wolves remake. Main character isn't memorable and generic.

But it was an event. And if Avatar 2 doesn't live up to the time and effort/hype put into it, it will be the biggest failure of all time. Cameron knows this. So he has to deliver.
