This is flip flopping. A wrestler does something bad on social media people connect it back to WWE. They do something good WWE shouldn't be connected. Flip flopping. Which is it? Dream got accused of stuff on a 3rd party social media and people connected it to WWE and said he should be fired from WWE due to his "independent" activities. Again which is it? Flip flopping based on when people like somebody or not.Again, regardless of what AJ did or walked back from doing...if there is nothing in those independent contractor agreements stating what can and cannot be said publicly about WWE's inner workings or what can or cannot be done with one's own social media or the monetizing of social media then WWE just staking a claim because they don't like what the wrestlers are doing on their side gigs makes zero sense.
If there is no prohibitive language than the logical step would be for WWE to renegotiate all contracts with new ones that include the pertinent language. Or they could bully the folks on their roster into just submitting to whatever they want them to do and let the chips fall where they may for anyone who bristles at being bullied which seems to be the course of action WWE has taken.
That is pure nonsense.
Totally controlling what an independent contractor does on their social media is in an entirely different universe than working with an independent contractor on a social media response to a sticky public relations controversy that could end up being a black mark on the brand.
And doing damage control with a talent you want to keep working for you doesn't then the company deserves a vig from the talent's side hustle.
And WWE will always face some backlash when people working for them do awful shyt because that is just how things work in the real world. If they wanted no backlash they should've fired Velveteen the second they found out he was sending dikk pics to teenage white boys.
And i'll just say, again...if these independent contractor myths were true WWE would look alot different.
And again, i have no sympathy for any of these people, they signed these contracts.
