Tupac was a thug
Everyone in nyc was scared of deathrow and the west coast (completely false)
50 is wack
Game is better than 50
Imaginary west coast dominance when east acts was goin plat and gold
Tupac was hot after his first two albums (false)
Biggie not being a legend after having two plat albums
Wu-Tang being for white people
DJ quick being a legendary producer

Imaginary west coast dominance :mjlol:

The biggest NY rapper of that era had Snoop sampled on his intro and used G Funk beats for his two biggest songs (Big Poppa and One More Chance Remix).

Chronic,Doggystyle and AEOM eclipsed 4x platinum, even regional west acts like E40 and Too Short sold more than Mobb Deep,Wu Tang, Das Efx etc..

Statements you see and hear parroted like they're facts but seem like they're a result of the echo chamber and nothing else.

One of the top examples for me is "Busta got no classic albums"

That's really a thing?

I haven't really put much thought into it, but I also don't recall that being a narrative about him. Maybe it's a regional thing?

1. Nas won the battle but Jay won the war because Nas signed to Def Jam... a participation trophy to make Jay feel good

Nas cooked Jay on wax and had that boy weeping like a willow tree. The battle ended before Nas signed with Def Jam

Jigga stans need to stop fronting and changing up history.

2. Atlanta killed Hip Hop... Poppycock

If anything, everyone jocking ATL killed it. No one told NY and other regions to directly copy off ATL. Rep where u come from and have some pride.

Jadakiss is Top 5 dead or alive

Shut the fukk up with all that,. Living legend, undeniable...but not even Top 25 ever. Ol tell a lie enough times it becomes the truth ass.

Has Jada even made a classic album with no skips?

Kiss Of Death might be the only one that I can listen to all the way through.

A nice 16= Jada is a legend

Album wise= meh

Kanye West has one of the best discographies in hip hop is one of the worst imo. If we stopped at MBDTF I might agree, but Ye, JIK, Yeezus, and the Dondas are all in the decent to mid of not worse range.

I give him his due as a producer, but as a rapper? I don't know, I never connected with him like that, plus his voice and delivery start to annoy me in large doses.

Dude's a genius as a self promoter though. Fact that his cult of personality is so strong that his stanbase thinks Yeezus, Life of Pablo and Donda are masterpieces is impressive in a way

Definitely an online narrative that persists. Not so much in the real world

I don't think it really qualifies as a narrative, but I feel like 2001 gets a lot more love than The Chronic does.

Now don't get me wrong, 2001 is a dope album. Retardedly dope.

But compared to the original Chronic? Nah. The Chronic was Dre's true solo introduction to the world... the entire landscape of hip-hop changed after it dropped! HOW MANY songs/albums came out after it that featured that high, whiny Moog whistling synthesizer? I rest my case. AND it introduced the LEGEND Snoop (well, you could argue Deep Cover did that, I guess) as well as the Death Row crew: Kurupt, Daz, RBX, Lady Of Rage.

As good as 2001 is, it had tracks like Let's Get High, Light Speed, Bang Bang. Yuck. :scust:

The Chronic was a 10/10 classic. Not a single bad track. Great skits, genre-changing beats, 100% analog production.

Deeez Nuuuts and Lil' Ghetto Boy ALONE make it a certified classic. Just listen to the instrumentals:

It doesn't get any better than that. Maybe I'm just an old head and out of touch. You could be right.

But you're not.

:blessed:

The whole idea of a "ghost producer". The narrative that has been formed out of ignorance states that the co-producer did all the work and the main producer simply took credit. Common sense tells you that the co-producer is a co-producer for a reason. "Bu, but, but the main producer was trying to promote the co-producer because his name isn't as big". Doesn't make sense. Lesser known producers get work all the time especially now.

I think it's because producer in hip hop is different than other genres. In hip hop it's assumed the producer has to be the beatmaker or composer. They can be, but just because Dre didn't play the keyboards or the bass on a track don't me he didn't produce it
