It aint that hard. Ocarina1998, I literally can't choose, it was the GOAT year of years.
Probably my favorite game of all time. Ocarina was epic, but mm was so different and unique. The atmosphere and NPC'S were fantastic. Only had four dungeons but it was so well thought out and basically perfected backtracking due to the time mechanic. I would donate limbs for a remaster

I was a massive JRPG nerd back then so it gotta go to xenogears even though i played it like 3 years later
I remember completing everything in the game for the next year, trying to figure out all the NPC side quest is one of my best memories in gaming.Probably my favorite game of all time. OOT was amazing too, but didn't catch my attention immediately when I got it. I couldn't figure out how to get the sword and I was too young to know what a tunic was so I thought link was wear a skirt, shyt was just lame to me. One day I went to an older cousins house and saw him playing it, shyt blew me away when I saw adult link with all the different items you could use.
I immediately went home and put actual effort into the game after that and was hooked.
dude... same! when i first played ocarina, i got stuck at trying to get into the fish belly. gave up and lent it to my best friend. that time i was heavily in pop warner football and video games was kind of put on the back burner. fractured my metatarsal bone in my right foot and was out with a cast for 5 weeks. breh told me he beat the game and that i needed to continue because i would be missing out. got it back and beat it in three weeks. took me a month to beat majora's mask and that with the official game guide too

WoW came out that year too but I never fukked with that subscription shyt, '04 was lowkey the greatest year in gaming of the new millenium

I missed out on sooooo many good JRPGs getting a N64 instead of a PlayStation back in the day. Part of my resentment toward nintendo started in this era. I remember they had a huge list of games like pokemon 64, mother 3, mario rpg 2, etc i was super hype coming form SNES and then we got absolutely nothing. I went out and got Quest 64 for my birthday i was so hyped for an rpg. It was a disaster.
When I finally got PlayStation, and got BOF3, ff7-9, Star Ocean, Xenogears, Legends of Mana, FFT, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve etc etc i was in heaven

Game was probably the most fun I've ever had. The joint on Wii was fun too. I have a Switch but hadn't played Tropical Freeze.
