I'm not getting married(25)
My career is finally taking off, and I love the feeling of being unattached
Yeah it feels great knowing I don’t have any baggage with me. Knowing how wishy washy the world is today. Knowing I’m not generally held at gunpoint by anything makes waking up feel better.

And how would YOU know how microwave food tastes? You're eating your "home cooked" fatback and greens, right?...
My point stands about the diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol rampant in the community... Not to mention the total breakdown of marriage and relations, in spite of all these supposedly "loving acts" going on in everyone's kitchen.

Why do you cats assume someone is mad because they don't see your point of view.....? It's one of the most unmanly traits I've been seeing as of late..... and furthermore, what I said doesn't just apply to marriage exclusively..... but you being too simple to realize that...... and I see how you went a lil extra in this post with certain stereo types and talking points.....

If anything, I've seen more and more WOMEN talking care of they MAN like the man is the traditional 'wife' and she's the traditional 'husband'
I say this shyt all the time, if it wasn't for Black women, the population of homeless Black men would be even worse than it is now.
A lot of these guys are in lopsided situations where they want to assert their masculinity but also don't have jobs and have to depend on the woman to survive. Men in those relationships often cheat because the woman they live with is effectively their mother.

Thomas, I’ve observed your posts since I’ve been posting on the coli, and I feel like you , @Matt504 and @BlaqkSpliffin are all very progressive/liberal posters. Even when I don’t necessarily agree with y’all on certain posts, I always enjoy reading what you guys have to say on different topics.

If anything young (black) men should be trying to marry MORE in this scenario.
Black community been a (mostly involuntary) matriarchy for the longest anyhow, why be mad at the power women already had/have?

There is no war on men. There's simply a rise of men who are losers, perhaps due to the economy's shift - and their inability to be shamed/embarrassed/rejected by women.
They're mad at the power these women actually have because it flies in the face of the power Black men can only claim to have. This scenario can ONLY breed contempt for Black women. You literally have men out here sleeping in Black women's homes, subject to their rule and feel insecure that the only thing keeping them in the house is the sex they're able to contribute to the relationship because it's the only thing they bring to the table.
That's exactly it.
There needs to be a much greater push for Black men to try and lock down our women to get married, especially considering the out-of-wedlock birth rate.
I know I live in a bubble, and that my immediate family all are marriage-first, children later-type Negroes, but I live by that fully.
Dual-income households, dual-parenting, having another person to lean on in case of emotional or medical trouble. Its a necessity.
Angela Davis pointed out correctly that the AA community has never been a "matriarchy" and that only in situations where there simply hasn't been a male figure at all, has there been this "matriarchal" framework.
But it was Black men leaving their families that caused it, because Black families have remained together in the US for the entirety of history.

And I know the argument well. For working-class women and men, marriage is a necessity for economic mobility, it is pooled resources, networks, emotional support, and when a child comes along, the best chance that child has of getting a boost up in a very competitive world.
