Gotti got money basically upfront. It was a production deal for his group Da Blockburnaz & Allstar (now known as Starlito) because he was already signed as a solo artist to TVT.
Problems came from Hurricane Katrina happening, them losing lots of the Blockburnaz album in the flood and the Blockburnaz breaking. I won't get in the situation with Star, but overall CMR did right by them and Gotti got good networking out of it (like Nicki Minaj's first video feature was on "5 Star Chick (Remix)").
