Props for the RYM links, unmatched site when it comes to finding new music.

I see you lean more towards the lighter side of Metal (Atmospheric, Melodic, Symphonic, Folk, Prog subgenres). I've got a few of these bands on my queue list already (Moonsorrow, Insomnium, Disillusion, Dir En Grey), albeit some for different albums. The Gathering and Kayo Dot look promising :ehh:. Admittedly I put off that Sunbather album last year when it dropped because most of the hype it was getting was from P4K drones who weren't even into Metal like that, but i'll check it out as well.

@Peter Parker

:myman: All of the stuff I've heard from that list is top quality piff. With Summoning, I never gave Lugburz a chance, I just jumped into Minas Morgul and moved forward from there off the strength of the general consensus. I'll go back and give it a chance at some point.

Lurker Of Chalice is nearing the top of my queue list, so I should get around to that soon. Also that Winter album looks to be a nice obscure BM gem, I'm gonna add that right under LOC so I check them out on the same day.

Yeah all those albums are sick, I highly reccomend LOC, and Winter is more Death/Doom but its a great album, really slow brooding shyt

Yeah I need some melody in my shyt even if its metal. I'm at heart a shoegaze/dream pop head so metal that has some stylistics leanings to that shyt is the best to me. shyt like sludge, drone, blackgaze...I honestly can't get too jiggy with the brutal death metal type shyt. just lacks the melodies to keep my interest.

Oh shyt, so it is. I just looked at the name "Winter - Into Darkness" & the black & white album cover & assumed it was a Black Metal album. :lolbron: Is this more along the lines of Mental Funeral or Transcendence Into The Peripheral? Either way I'm definitely listening.

I hear you breh. Coming from a Shoegaze or Post-Rock background it makes sense to ease into the genre with Metal that incorporates familiar influences from genres you already enjoy. I personally had no issue jumping directly into Extreme Metal, my first introductions to Metal were Slayer, Gorgoroth & Cannibal Corpse & I was :ahh: from the jump. But then again I'm :demonic: as fukk.

Have you ever listened to Storm Of The Light's Bane, At The Heart Of Winter, In the Nightside Eclipse or Far Away From The Sun? Basically albums that are still Melodic or Symphonic BM, but lean closer towards traditional Black Metal than the albums that you listed above.

I prefer alternate metal with artists like:

System of a Down
Rage against the Machine
Five Finger Death Punch
Disturbed

Have you ever listened to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden or 80's Metallica?

its definitely closer to Transcendence, it feels cold like black metal at least while somehow maintaining the heaviness of Death Metal

Check out the following albums:

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Metallica - Master of Puppets

See if you notice any distinction in music quality (riffing, solos, drumming, song structure, lyrics, etc) between those 3 bands and SOAD, FFDP and Disturbed. If you enjoy the albums and want to get further into the Metal genre as a whole from there, just drop me a mention.

next band on my radar is Neurosis and the Ocean. Anybody listen to them?

Perfect Circle, Tool, Isis and Opeth or my favourites

I haven't checked out The Ocean yet, but I can confirm that Neurosis is that piff. Start off with Through Silver In Blood, if it doesn't click during the first listen just give it one more try and you'll be :wow:.

After you "get" that album, check out the rest of their stuff (specifically Enemy of the Sun, Times of Grace, and A Sun That Never Sets).

Also, check these albums out if you've never listened to them:

Cult of Luna - Somewhere Along the Highway
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Boris - Feedbacker
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance (Brave Murder Day is their best album, but this release is probably a better introduction based off of what you already listen to)

:patrice: @ that Summoning. I don't usually mess with " Black metal" or "death metal" whatever that is considered because I find the vocals to be annoying but the vocals aren't that retarded and the music is dope and dramatic
