don’t know why you thought it would flop breh. But it’s been making its money during the week. Kids were on break. Holiday and family time etc so it’s reaped the benefits of time off.

Just looked like an uninspired, weak attempt at cashing in off the popularity of an old movie. Even the trailer looked weak to me.

I've been :ohhh:at the success of this movie, from the reviews to the receipts. I was dead wrong. Shout to the rock and kevin hart.

Told you all in the initial thread it would be a hit but hey:manny:

I’ll say it time and time again but not every movie is meant for every person who posts in this forum. Like @Dominic Brehetto said it’s perfect counterprogramming to Star Wars and a perfect family movie to go to. So next time something like this is green lit, don’t embarrass yourselves by asking “why”

After that Baywatch flop, it wasn't inconceivable for another one of his remakes to flop in the same year. But congrats to Dwayne for bouncing back.

Difference is this tho: jumanji is a sequel and has a clear audience. Like I said with baywatch it was neither fish nor fowl. Jumanji didn’t trade in on nostalgia. It sold itself as its own thing. If you’re a certain age then you remember the original. But if you’re a kid who’s never heard of it you saw a movie that looked fun and funny. So of course you’d drag your parents to see it. Scott Mendelssohn at Forbes wrote a great little article on why jumanji worked and why blade runner flopped.

Baywatch was mismarketed and traded on something that was already ironic and cheesy

Blade Runner and Baywatch being rated R while Jumanji was PG-13 was definitely one of the reasons.

21 jump street was r rated tho and made a killing. And 21 jump street came out in March. Baywatch was a big summer tentpole so it could've found its audience. I firmly believe it all came down to marketing man and how it was marketed, which is what Scott gets it:

Jumanji didn't trade on its nostalgia to get butts in seat. Blade Runner did. Jumanji told you its story assuming you knew nothing about the first one. Blade Runner kept all of its story secret assuming you saw and/or gave a shyt about the first one. Jumaji was a sequel to a hit movie. Blade Runner was the sequel to a flop.

Don't get me wrong, I love Blade Runner and love the sequel more actually, but the shyt was always a risky investment and they didn't sell it right at all
