Everyone thought a remake and going against Star Wars was death row for this movie but this movie has crazy legs and has now jumped Star Wars as the #1 movie in the US three weeks after its debut. That's fukking crazy. It's Kevin Hart biggest movie numbers wise ever and a huge bounce back for The Rock after that trash Baywatch flopped.

It turned out to be the perfect counter programming to Star wars.

It ended up being the fun family friendly film of Christmas.

And the funny thing it hasn't been able to get many specialty screens to rake in extra cash because Disney strong armed theatre chains into giving them a month of exclusive runs. Something for all those idiots celebrating Disney buying fox to think about. A company gaining more and more power and being able to strong arm the competition and theatres is terrible for the movie business. You already saw that shyt they tried to pull with the LA times by trying to black ball them after getting negative press.

Shyt wasn't even in IMAX over here because of SW

Quentin Tarantino also talked about this. Theatres were blocking Hateful Eight because Disney had them playing SW in too many rooms or some shyt.

I had to go see insidious 4 in the regular theatre because star wars is still in sole control of the specialty theatres. It's ridiculous.

You mentioned baywatch and I think that movie was just in a bad spot. It wasn’t marketed well and it was kinda in between. It wanted to trade on the baywatch brand of the 90s while being an irreverent comedy of now. And I think people felt like they’d seen that already in 21 jump street. And probably seen it done better.

That’s what’s up with this movie doing well!!

Number 1 movie in the country 3 weekends in a row..... which isn’t something to dismiss.

Domestically at about $250M which not a lot of films can do.
